I don't like Birchwood. There, I've said it. You may call me a snob, but these 'new towns' don't do it for me. What the planners did do right here, though, was to build a pub, too. Ok, so it's on the Asda carpark and there's not much else around, but at least there is the Peacock. I don't much like places that encourage drink-driving (registering your number plate at the bar gives you free parking), but it is what it is.
It's a Marston's pub, so the food menu is extensive, as is the selection of drinks. As above, however, they've got a captive audience so quality and atmosphere is a bit hit and miss, and it's not cheap (a pint is generally over £5) but they do 'meal deals'. What you do get, however, is very good. The Sirloin Steak Americana (£16) was divine and the Mega Mixed Grill (£20.95) was large (and did beat me!), albeit a little overcooked. The wings and ribs to start (£6), with the 'devlish' hot sauce was very good indeed.
Staff can also be a bit hit and miss (Debby was definitely a hit!) and children/families are more than welcome (there is a small indoor play area, and outside playspace too). The Peacock has a large outdoor seating area for when the weather allows (not much of it is covered). The toilets were clean enough though could do with a revamp.
As with all these places it's a community hub, and rightly so! If I do find myself in Birchwood again in sure to come back.
The pizzas are to die for !!! Omg well worth the price
Also the staff was great and made a big effort talking and playing with my daughter making sure she had colours and she was ok.
Thursday steak and drink for £13.
Absolutely brilliant value.
Things changed within a month.
Maybe last time Sunday they had an off day.
Steak cooked exactly as asked.
Well seasoned.
Ate everything.
Just shows things can change very quickly.
Well done. Will definitely be trying the curry next
