My best mate and I met up here for a drink and a spot of lunch - his recommendation as he’s previously been here with family and liked the food. He had a tuna sandwich with chips which he said was very nice, I ordered the Steak & Ale Pie & Chips from the Specials board - very tasty indeed, whilst next time I’ll try something else I’d also definitely have it again! Had I realised it came with its own allotment I’d of requested to the landlady to omit that from my plate as I don’t eat that, but next time I’ll know! To be fair the board didn’t mention the veg! Having read other people’s reviews I notice few complaints about attitudes, food wait times and also about allergy issues - it’s a pub, not a 5-Star gourmet restaurant! If you ask stupid questions you’ll get an appropriate response I’d imagine!! It clearly states in big letters at each bar “We don’t do fast food” and also some allergy/gluten not free signs - so I see no point in complaining when you’ve already been warned. It’s a country pub that does great home-cooked style meals for a reasonable price. I’ll definitely be going back. The only thing that needs improvement in my opinion is some of the decor could do with freshening up. Although you can see they’ve made progress around the bar areas so getting there I’d imagine.

Food was excellent, I had a burger and couldn't of done better myself. It was delicious and plenty of it. The wife is vegan and hers looked and tasted amazing, and that's hard to find! Was totally shocked by how good the food was at that price. Thought we was getting run of the mill food. Far from it.. 10/10 We will definitely be telling our family and friends and hopefully be returning soon.

Excellent choice of food. Something for everyone and plenty of it. Next time I’ll order a small meal! Good, friendly staff. Many changes since I was last there, which was probably 4-5 years ago. My husband used to meet his walking friends there about once a month. This visit for myself and two dear friends was a ‘making new memories’ following the death of my husband a year ago.

Not been before, so pleasantly surprised to find such a welcoming pub in a small village. Lots of cars outside but still ample room inside or in garden. Food very reasonably priced, with the weekday option of half portions. I had cod and chips, which was cooked to perfection. My friend had lambs liver and bacon, which she thoroughly enjoyed. A very pleasant experience in what I found was a very popular pub. It deserves to be.

Popped in out of desperately needing a drink ( loo break). Had a drink; rude not too, looked at the menu, saw the super sensible prices, thought yep, give it a go, so glad we did, the food is awesome, home cooked fresh as, super delicious 😋 so good I even took the wife for a meal there, wife loved it. Can't fault the staff, super efficient and very accommodating, I loved the old world charm of the building and its setting in an idealistic area, plenty of parking, not a traffic warden in site, would seriously recommend this place,

Busy pub for lunch, even on a Tuesday lunchtime which was when we visited. Good traditional fare, very reasonable prices, with vegetarian options. The portions are generous. They do a halt size portion for those with a smaller appetite. Vegetables not the most imaginative and I suspect all frozen for ease of use

Excellent food, good choice of dishes, good value for money. Lovely landlady who took time out to converse and make us feel very welcome. Compliments to the chef. Will definitely use again. Just 5 minutes walk from Washington camp site.

My first visit today, lovely place. They looked after 21 of us for lunch very well. I discovered the best lasagne I've ever had. So cheesy, and crispy on top, as it should be! I had the smaller size and it was plenty. I'll be back soon as I can. Many thanks.

First visit for family celebration meal. I wanted to give credit as we had a lovely evening. The Franklin was accommodating, clean premises, not crammed in, tables felt semi private, all tables filled. Friendly service, variety of 11 meal orders placed which came out piping hot at the same time. Tasty good quality food. Bravo to chef!
