Very interesting visit. The miller was great he gave us a good talk on the history, answered all our questions demonstrated the workings of the mill and the water wheel. He gave us so much time and was such a friendly chap. There's a small art exhibition in one of the first rooms, live music outside. They are running murder mystery escape room adventures around the mill at the moment which looked like a lot of fun. We had a lovely cream tea in the he gardens. The scones are made with the flour from the mill. They are lovely. It's a great place for a few hours out. Car park, toilets and friendly staff.
There are plenty of restored mills around, but very few are still actively milling corn to produce flour you can then purchase. This place is a rare treasure.
Excellent from every aspect, but the warmth and enthusiasm of their team was memorable.
Plentiful free parking, clean loos, superbly restored and lovingly maintained ancient fully working technology is presented in context and clearly seen and presented.
Initial warm greeting from reception lady, tour conducted by the miller, and charisma of the catering lady with her perfect cream teas made our long trip to visit fully worthwhile.
If you think you might find this place interesting, be assured you will. Highly recommended!
Our dog enjoyed visiting too.
Tea and coffee cafetières are “bottomless”, and it’s also worth visiting just to enjoy their cafe.
We were here for a wedding. The Miller came down and turned on the mill and took the time to show us round and talk to us. He was really knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The mill is set in lovely grounds. Lots of parking and clean facilities.
What an absolute gem of a place this is. Nestled by the River Lea, it is not huge, but it is lovingly preserved and maintained by the wonderful team who run it. Very family oriented with some outstandingly imaginative activities on school holidays, it combines genuinely interesting history (the mill machinery dates from the 1760s and is still in use today) with a small but fascinating museum, interwoven with games, dress up, trails and a lovely outdoor space with cafe. If you live within a reasonable radius of WGC, this is a must visit destination with or without kids in tow. Superb!
Charming bit of history here, to see the making of a still working water mill. As well as some background lore about who was living here at a young age. Had a pleasant time just wandering around and admiring the work that was put in to this place.
Fascinating place; wonderful to see it's still in use. Will come back for their famous cream tea to sample the home-milled flour in their scones!
Me and the kids love this place.
They put on great craftfs/baking workshops during school holidays.
Very friendly staff help the little ones out with eye spy searches etc.
The staff talk you round the ever changing museum exhibitions (even tho a small room)
But main attraction the mill itself is explained well to older children who can make it up the tight steps.
Very interactive.
Lovely garden to walk around.
Well worth a few hours.
Only a few parking spaces so arrive earlier.
Fascinating working water mill producing flour. Run by friendly, knowledgeable staff
Took my litter one he enjoyed
Absolutely lovely old mill, also definitely recommend the scones from the cafe, made from the flour the mill produces.
Excellent local museum. Visit when the mill is working, brilliant, or when they have special events and exhibitions, sometimes outside in the good weather. Nice tea shop too.
I'm not a person that often writes reviews, nor one that gives a five star rating for that matter, but I can't think of a place that more deserves a brilliant review than this one.
I went here last week and I'm still thinking about how wonderful it was. Memories of my wonderful and interesting conversation with Mike the Miller make me smile at inappropriate times during my day.
I'd also like to give special commendation to the lovely man that was working at the front desk at the beginning and the cafe at the end, and the brilliant woman that was working in the shop. Its incredible how everyone I met here seems to care about this place so much. I will admit when I was brought here I didn't expect to enjoy it very much, but now I'm telling everyone who'll listen about how lovely my experience was.
As a final note, I will urge you (as other reviews have) to get the cream tea. The scones are made with flour they milled on site, and the emperor grey tea will change your life.
Thank you for a wonderful day out to all the people at Mill Green Museum and Mill on Sunday the 6th of November!!
We stopped randomly on the way home, found it really Interesting to see a water mill work. The guy was very helpful and great at explaining everything.
Very good place staff the Miller was very good with the children and gave us lots of information about the place
Lovely to see the old mill. Not working today but I'll be back to see it when it is. Most days I'm told
Proper enjoyed my afternoon at the mill green museum! We got what felt like a private tour with the passionate and knowledgable mike on the history of the mill and stone milling in general.
Make sure to buy some milled flour from the shop at the end 🥖
Needed an alternative visit on a rainy day where roads were flooding, and found the mill by chance. We’ve never felt so at ease and cared for at a tourist attraction anywhere. A genuinely fascinating chat and demonstration with Mike the miller, and the tea and scones made with their own flour were second to none.
A really nice, relaxed, typical English mill event. Nice cream tea and cakes and fascinating to be there when the mill started up... You have to buy their flour!! A nice little garden and museum
