Review The Lion Bicester - Wendlebury

We had another family lunch get together and had a brilliant time. They have a main Dining area and some separate rooms which are ideal for family/friends meals with young children as the children can move around without the parents worrying about annoying other Diners and other Diners don’t have children walking around. The food was superb as it always is. Cooked to perfection and lovely and hot. All the staff were wonderful, friendly and helpful. We stayed overnight and the room was good. Our only comment would be that the grey cushions attached to the wall in place of a headboard are thick so you lose that amount of bed length so if you are tall, like we are, your feet overhang the bed which made for an uncomfortable night. The Breakfast was lovely and everything was cooked well. All in all a great place for food and rooms. Would certainly recommend it for a meal and/or overnight stay. We are already booked for another family get together in November.

Well, what can I say....this place is amazing. Girls behind the bar are so friendly and helpful. The food is amazing, and again, the service was amazing. Can't wait for tomorrow nite. I would recommend staying here to anyone. The rooms are nice and spacious and the shower.....well.....I could spend an hour in there easy, and it's big enough for 2

My wife and I had lunch yesterday. As usual it was first class. The portions were very large and of really good quality. The staff were excellent - attentive and professional. The General Manager was very friendly and welcomed us, and made a point of coming to our table a couple of times. A well run restaurant and excellent value for money

Two lovely lunches here. Very friendly and helpful staff. Dog friendly in bar area. Lots of outdoor space too. Food was excellent and sensibly priced we thought.

We met friends for lunch after not seeing them for five years. Opting for the Wagyu beef burger, I was not disappointed! Succulent, tasty and filling! Sticky toffee pudding absolutely finished me off. Service was great, giving us time to order, check backs and delivery was wonderfully timed. A great range of drinks are available, even for those who are driving. Close proximity to Bicester village, Oxford and Silverstone circuit makes this a convenient location for a meal or for accommodation.

Excellent pub lunch - something for all the family. Great kids menu! Hot, tasty - well presented. The google reviews were accurate, we went based on the positive feedback. Neha and the team were all very helpful and attentive. Good selection of drinks and very good value as well. Perfect after a busy morning in Bicester. Highly recommend & thank you 🙏🏼

We visited here on the day we moved south from Liverpool. We decided to treat ourselves to a nice meal before heading home to crash for the night and tackle shopping and unpacking the next day. We didn't know the area and decided to just go for a drive and see what we found. We stumbled upon a road sign for the Lion at Wendlebury. When we arrived the building looked absolutely beautiful from the outside, the hanging baskets really made it feel so welcoming and pretty and the flower colours were really lovely and gave off a fab scent. So first impressions were really good. We went inside and were pleasantly surprised, we asked if they had room for us, and they did. The hostess asked if we had been before which we said we had not, so we were shown the three different dining areas we could choose from, and there really is something for everyone. From a bar/pub area, to a fancy restaurant area, to a fabulous outdoor dining area. We chose to sit outside as the night was glorious, and we were sat beside the kitchen and opposite a lovely open fire, the furniture was comfortable and clean and very well presented and cared for, without a mark to be seen on the glass table top. The waitresses were unbelievably attentive and polite, nothing was too much to ask for, and service was prompt and to a very high standard. The food was exceptional, the childrens meals were of an extremely high standard and the adult meals were flawless. The kitchen was open, and we could see inside and the place looked immaculate. There were always people on hand to get food out as soon as the bell went for service, and there were plenty of staff milling to meet needs of customers as soon as they were required as well. The atmosphere was wonderful too. It is now my favourite place to go for any occasion, and if anyone needs a masterclass on how to do things right in a local establishment, to accommodate all dining experiences, then this is the place to visit. Everything from the external and internal facilities were impeccably clean, well presented and well thought out. I honestly can't rate this place high enough and if you haven't been you must visit. A job well done by all.

Missing something here! Been a great place to eat in the past. Now, no table service outside the restaurant. Went in on a Sunday at 5pm. No roasts left and too many other dishes (limited Sunday menu) having a supplement charge on top, which in my view and going by past meals is at the upper end of cost. Disappointed and not the only family to walk out and eat else where that night.

We booked the lavender room for Mother's Day yesterday and It was lovely. The idea behind hiring this room was to make Mother's Day extra special, both my husband and I lost our maternal grandmothers last year and this was the first Mother's Day without them. We wanted to take our mothers mind of this and have a big celebration of how amazing they both are. From the day I was interested in the room the manager was nothing but helpful and gave me all the information I needed, Communication was excellent. We arranged to be there 2hours before every one arrived so we could decorate the room. The staff had already prepared the table and the lady that would be serving us that day introduced herself and made sure we were ok and had everything we needed. The food was amazing and at the end of the meal all the mother's received a bunch of daffodils. Such a lovely personal touch to make the day more memorable. I highly recommend this beautiful pub for a meal or for a family occasion and I will be defiantly be coming back. Thank you again for making what we thought might be a tough day in to one we will never forget X x x x x x X

Visited the Lion today for Sunday lunch. We were a table of 6. The pub is beautifully decorated with lots of nooks & crannies & oozes charm & character. Was a busy lunch service but the service was fantastic. Chose the 3 course menu £24.95. The adults started with the course pork pate & smoked salmon- DELICIOUS. Mains were the roast pork & roast chicken. Huge portions with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding & a good selection of crunchy vegetables. Always worried that the meat will be dry but not at all. Dessert was the Eton mess & the chocolate brownie... WOW WOW WOW. Staff were attentive & friendly. My 10 year old nephew said after eating his scampi & chips & sticky toffee Sunday- I had to eat every last morsel it was sooooo delicious. A lovely find. Will definitely recommend

Very disappointing lunch today. Beef dry and tough, Yorkshire pudding dry, two small bowls of vegetables between six. Finished with pot of tea between four of us with one tea bag in it and no lid on teapot as all the lids have been broken as informed by the waitress! We all came away stinking of smoke from the open fire. Not a good experience overall at all. Back to The Muddy Duck for us.

Disappointing. Lovely looking place with good furniture and a relaxing outdoor area. We ordered 3 Roast Porks and when they arrived the roast potatoes were awful. 3 of them were green and off inside and the ones that weren't off were hard as bullets. Clearly they were prepared hours and hours before and had hardened to the point of being inedible. Had anyone bothered to come round and ask how our meal was I would have told them. I mentioned this to the woman behind the bar before paying. She was rude and dismissive (saying "enjoy the rest of your weekend" when clearly your demeanour is saying otherwise does not count!) and made no offer to discount the meal whatsoever. As a local who eats out a lot that will prove to be a very costly bit of poor customer service. I won't be back in a hurry.

Went to the lion at wendlebury for the first time last night and it was amazing. All the staff were so friendly and the whole place looked great. It’s a bit more expensive then some places but when the food is that good who cares. I’d recommend to anyone to give it a go and I’ll definitely be there again soon

Have been a few times this year with friends for special occasions and been disappointed service let us down and the The next time we took friends - we had plastic in our meal . It was very good when it first opened after the renovations and we had wonderful meals then but i must say the standards have dropped , service is not so good - staff aren't trained properly so wine falls everywhere when being served ! It's a shame as we really liked the place !

Great beer (serves Shipyard), wine (esp Shiraz & Rioja), food (burgers, fish & chips, steak & ribs all yummy), welcoming management & staff, relaxed & social atmosphere (depending on the day) and decor is well done. Taxi from Bicester approx £5-9. Well worth it

Booked Easter Sunday lunch with Friends who were with us for the weekend. Have to say were very disappointed with the level of service and food. Waiter - Jaroslav from the start was rude when taking our drinks and food order. Long wait between courses. Children's food was supposed to be served during adult starters - had to prompt to bring out after the starters were taken away! One child's fish dish was full of bones and had to be sent back to the kitchen. Such a shame as we have visited before as a family and was impressed hence going with friends who came for the weekend. Very disappointed.

We decided to try out one of the local pubs and this one was recommended. The pub has been refurbished, lovely atmosphere. The food was delicious, especially the chocolate brownie for dessert. Highly recommend and would go back

Another great night at the Lion. We were a party of 19 having our annual Christmas party. The food was delicious, and the service excellent. Highly recommend.

I went there with my daughters, one is gluten free and the other has allergies to dairy, eggs and peanuts. The staff were very helpful, one of the most helpful places we have been to. Thank you for all your help. Also, the food was delicious.
