Review The Westleigh Inn - Westleigh

Paul Trappett
Fabulous gastro grub. We came from Pillhead Farm via the minor roads - NOT for the feint hearted! (Returned via the A39). We had booked in advance, and good job we did, it was well busy. Service was quite slow, but I couldn't complain as the majority of the work was being done by the middle-aged blonde lady, who was running around like a headless chicken. The food, though not particularly cheap, was absolutely fabulous. My wife had a steak cooked to perfection. And my steak and ale pie was quite possibly the best I've ever had. Massive chunks of beef in a rich and plentiful gravy, not at all dry like as in many places I've eaten. And the shortcrust pastry was divine, crumbly (even the lower half), and sweet tasting - almost like shortbread biscuits. There were no complaints from the others in our party, not even the kids. There is a good-sized car park, and a moderately equipped playground in the garden helped keep the kids busy.

Lovely, cosy Devon pub. It has a large outdoor seating area and a nice vibe inside. Very friendly and attentive staff. We were impressed by both the variety and quality of food! This was our first time visiting this pub but we shall definitely return.

Top quality pub food with wonderful hospitality. The pie was amazing! Really friendly and attentive staff. We're on holiday in the area but if I lived locally i'd definitely visit again. Highly recommended

Not sure why, but it's been a while since we visited the Westleigh Inn, but it was worth it! It has been updated a lot since our last visit, and all for the better. This lovely country pub has everything, good selection of beer and ales, superb dining if you need a snack or a meal, a great play area for the kids, beautiful views over the Torridge to be enjoyed as you sit outdoors in the well maintained garden area. Highly recommended!

Welcoming pub with good beer and tasty food. Can recommend the succulent pork ribeye with mustard mash. Beer garden with views over estuary and fine play area for children.

Visited the pub after a recommendation from the owner of our holiday cottage. So glad we did! It’s a cosy traditional little pub, tucked away but well signposted. The setting is beautiful and it has a lovely beer garden and play area. I hadn’t booked and I suspect if we had turned up later in the evening we may not have been as lucky at getting a table, it’s clearly popular. I’d definitely book in future, just in case. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming as were the local patrons. The food was fantastic and well worth the money. I had the vegetable lasagne, homemade and very well made! It was a huge plate full of lasagne, salad, chips and garlic bread but too good to leave any of it. My daughter had burger and chips, which she really enjoyed and cleared her generously sized plate too. I wish I’d had room for dessert, next time! Highly recommend.
