I visited here today with my wife and we both absolutely loved it! A warm and friendly welcome as soon as you enter with options of either a lounge area (where dogs are welcome) or a dining area to sit in. There is great range of food on offer including vegan and gluten-free options. I chose the homemade beef burger (I added halloumi on top of mine), all of which was cooked perfectly and full of flavour. My wife chose the mushroom pate, which was also delicious (especially with the onion chutney) along with a very generous and particularly tasty side portion of sweet potato fries! There were also a delicious and wide range of really interesting drinks. The two examples that we chose to have were “black currant and liquorice” and “rhubarb and rosehip”. We were too full to try the deserts but they looked amazing and will definitely have to be sampled another time. Thank you very much - we will be returning!

We always go to this eatery when visiting Whitby as it has an amazing selection of vegetarian food and it also allows dogs into the lounge area. We actually visited twice yesterday. Once for brunch and then tea and cake on the afternoon. Service in friendly, the food is extremely fresh, homemade and very tasty. I guess that's why we keep going back!! Would highly recommend.

What an absolutely delightful find off the cobbled streets of Whitby. Beautiful hanging garden and a great outside and/or inside place to relax and eat/drink. The staff were friendly and I look forward to my next visit.

What a wonderful cafe and restaurant! The cake fridge is to die for, the menu is wonderful, the decor has been stolen and replicated in my home, the atmosphere is typical Whitby warmth and love. But the best thing is the people running it - Sophie and Bri are awesome people - can't wait to come back xxxx

My Husband and myself stayed in the old dispensary last night for our first valentines as Mr & Mrs. Absolutely beautiful place. Immaculately clean. Flowers in the kitchen and little red love heart chocolates on the pillows.. Lovely gesture. Only disappointment was nobody to welcome us when we arrived at 3.50. The bistro was closed and there was no one about to let us in, tell or show us where we were staying. We had to ring a phone number a couple of times before we got through, to be directed by phone to the old dispensery. It would have been nice to be greeted by the owners. Customer service in the bistro at breakfast could do with improving, the girl took our order, but didn't bring our juice or tea and we had to ask for it again when our breakfast came. Other to that it is a beautiful place to stay. We will definitely be returning to the old dispensary

We were in by 10:03 and got the last table. Opens at 10:00. Not clear but I would definitely book in advance. You do have to call them. No booking page on website. Food was delicious and service was pleasant, efficient and friendly. They have some dog friendly tables too. I will definitely go back.

Always have to Pop in whenever we are in Whitby. Tucked away through an alley entrance but plenty of room inside and out. One half of the restaurant takes dogs (our main reason for coming). The staff are always friendly and accommodating. Comfortable atmosphere. The food is good quality, well cooked and there is plenty of choice. The breakfasts can’t be beaten, and they serve them up till half eleven which gives you enough time to get there!

We enjoy coming here for an early Breakfast bun. The coffee is fantastic too. The staff are very accommodating and friendly, food is quality and always hot. The prices are reasonable and there’s a fair choice on the menu. It’s dog friendly and although I don’t really like dogs around food, every visit, the dogs have all been very well behaved. If I had one criticism, as it was December, and quite cold, I’d fit some sort of door closing device. How people think it’s OK to leave the door open is beyond me. Its certainly won’t stop us coming again, but I think I’d prefer not to stay in the section where the entrance is. Edit. Another visit. Really well looked after with my Dairy free breakfast. Extra credit when we hadn’t realised the mushrooms were cooked in butter.

Have eaten at this hidden gem twice now and it never disappoints. Restaurant is spacious and airy - staff are welcoming & it’s nice being served with a genuine smile. The selection of food is good with excellent vege & vegan options available. I had the vege chilli nachos and the portion was huge - I needed help finishing it. Overall, a very tasty & satisfying lunch in a fantastic location. Our group of 5 really enjoyed both visits here and will return when we’re next in Whitby. Perfect to dine before climbing the 199 steps!

Superb! Had to wait a few minutes for a table and you do have to book at least a day in advance to guarantee a spot! We can see why, superb cake, coffee and tea! Piping hot strong flat white coffee and hot cherry pie with tons of custard. We also shared a Yorkshire curd cake which is difficult to describe and went will with some of the leftover custard !! Highly recommended

Gorgeous cafe. Had the poached egg on toast and it was amazing thank you very much. Young girl, dark hair that was taking orders and seating people was absolutely lovely. As were the other staff. Stayed in the accomadation next door ran by becca and Ian so this is perfect and works well.

We have been here several times and it’s always fabulous. Had the kippers a few months ago and they were delicious. Last time we had a breakfast and a porridge (with cream and golden syrup 😋) and some French toast with bacon. It was all terrific and the service is friendly and efficient. Thank you 🙏

Plate was super hot so be careful. I probably wouldn't put salad leaves on such a hot plate either. But apart from that I had the double french toast with bacon and it was a nice change from a full English.

Delightful hidden gem away from the busy Whitby streets. The outdoor seating is cosy and picturesque in the sunshine. But what made our stop here the most pleasant was the lovely team, they were caring, friendly and very accommodating.

Having booked an apartment with the shepherds purse, the Bistro was Ideal to go to for breakfast in fact it was so nice we came back for an evening meal as well, which was wonderful too. The staff were very pleasant and very happy to make sure all was well, performed with a smile. The coffee was really nice, not sure what it was called but excellent! The list of cakes was just mouth watering. So I can highly recommend this Bistro for breakfast or evening meal, fabulous.

Mum and I had decided to spend the day in Whitby some weeks back, as it's one of our favourite places to go for the day. We'd parked up for the day and had a look around a few of the shops and as a few hours passed and it was approaching 12 o'clock, we decided to look for somewhere to have a bit of lunch. Due to my mum having a wheat and gluten intolerance, it can be difficult at times to find places that cater to such dietary requirements. A place we had tried some months back was alright, but wasn't the greatest. We'd happened to stumble upon Sander's Yard Bistro merely by chance, as it was tucked away from the bustling cobbled street. After having a look at the menu by the gate, we thought we'd give it a try. Although it was busy, one of the staff members was more than happy to find us a table and it wasn't long before we'd got one. We were seated on a fab table by the main door, overlooking the wonderfully charming courtyard. A real bonus that the weather kept ever so nice for us too! We had a lovely lady who served us and nothing seemed too much trouble, not to mention there were some great gluten-free options available. So mum ended up ordering the mature cheddar, red onion and tomato on a toasted gluten-free bun and I got the Cumberland sausage sandwich in a warm ciabatta roll and we were really impressed. It was hot, well-presented and very enjoyable, not to mention the fab raspberry milkshake! We'd have liked to try the selection of cakes they had too, but we were full after our bit of lunch. However we shall certainly be back for more without a doubt. Really pleased with the great food, great location in a quiet space and the great staff also! Many thanks to Sander's Yard Bistro! :)

Most restaurants around Whitby and Scarborough seem orientated around fish and chips - I craved a fresh tasty salad and this place delivered. Lovely little place, friendly staff and the goats cheese salad with elderflower drink was exactly what I needed.

Tucked in a lane off Christchurch Street this is a lovely spot for breakfast, lunch, coffee, tea. Two indoor seating areas (one with comfy sofas, chairs, one with proper tables and chairs) as well as outdoors courtyard. Super friendly staff. Everything fresh and interesting. Order and pay at counter. Lots of local artwork.

Really nice please. Plenty of veggie options. Good quality food. The salad could be better ( bulk frisee salad and half a tiny tomato )the Mississippi mud pie wasn't the right thing it was a cheesecake type thing not the layered pie that it should be- it was still ok but not as good as it should be. Would still go back. It was very busy and the staff were great.

Visited here as a guest when the Bistro was closed for a wedding reception. The staff were great and very accommodating, and the wedding meal was excellent. A wild owl visits the adjacent open air yard which entertained us. As it was near Halloween and Whitby Goth weekend the bistro was fittingly decorated which added to the happy atmosphere.
