Absolutely fabulous Youth Hostel that is possibly ranked No. 1 in the UK.
The building is stunning, with its own history, very comfortable dormitories, facilities and outstanding food in the restaurant. It's literally a minutes walk from Whitby Abbey, the literary home of Count Dracula, and Whitby Tap Brewery, where the Count would spend much of his time and money if he were real 😉
Highly recommend and will stay here again 👍🏾

Very good value and lots to see
Lovely museum. There's plenty to see. Fossils, lots of taxidermy, which is very interesting if you haven't seen certain species up close. The shipping room is fascinating, with information on Captain Cook voyages and life at sea, including his findings. Lots of models. History of Whitby Abbey plus models. You can easily spend a few hours here. Lovely staff and great tea room. Well worth a visit. In walking distance of Whitby harbour, located in Pannett Park.
Wonderful variety, great value, and a lovely gift shop. Also appreciate that they have a cloakroom! Now closed for the winter - we were the last visitors for 2023.
Wow! Amazing little gem tucked away in a pretty park. Lots of Victorian cases showing hundreds of fossils and some beautiful Whitby jet. Definitely need more than one day to fully explore. Handy that the ticket is valid for a full year. The tea shop was great too. Huge slab of fruit cake and cheese!
A huge, eclectic collection of fascinating artifacts that create a real sense of Whitby as a place. It's a must visit, and allow yourself lots of time to take it all in.

Personally I found it endlessly fascinating.
All set in a lovely park, a bit of a hidden gem.

Museums aren't usually our thing but we decided to visit here mainly because of the pouring rain and have to say, were pleasantly surprised by how much there was to see. £7 a head, which lasted us for the whole day, as there was so much of interest to see, plus the tickets are also valid for a whole year's visit if you are still in the area. Everything from local fossil hunting to dinosaur remains found locally to social history and beyond, to eclectic mix of exhibits from far and wide. Set in a pleasant park to wander around as well. A good find!
A wonderfully eclectic collection of historical items from bronze and iron age to sailing and whaling to ecology, fossils, and Whitby history. Most interesting for all ages - there's something for everyone. The bright and airy cafe also does a mean pot of tea (Yorkshire of course!) As well as delicious cakes and scones. Well worth a visit. An added plus is the Art gallery at the front. Good value all round.
This is a surprisingly good museum. Children enter free, so it was just £8 for me, which got me an annual pass. There's some amazing dinosaur fossils by the entrance and there's a really great section on Captain Cook's voyages. There's some activity sheets for kids if they like that sort of thing, with different ones for different ages. We spent about an hour there, but that was with a 3 year old with a short attention span, so we could easily have spent more time there and we'll definitely return.
There's a cafe in the lower floor where the food is reasonably priced and tasty. It's not huge though so did fill up quickly at lunch time.
The museum is within Pannet Park which is nice to look round. There's also a fantastic play area just outside the museum.
