This place is a veritable Whitley Bay institution. A traditional seaside promenade cafe serving traditional seaside cafe fayre, where well behaved, dry dogs are welcome inside the cafe. Just the place for a light bite or perhaps an ice cream sundae after a day on the beach.

My wife and I stay at the Old Hartley campsite regularly with our two dogs. We walk along to Tynemouth and let the dogs enjoy the beach. On the way back it always a treat to stop at the cafe for coffee, cake and ice cream the staff are friendly and the dogs are welcomed in. We look forward to visiting and would recommend the cafe to anyone.

This cafe has been on the seafront for years, I remember it from childhood when I came to the seaside with my parents & getting a 99 cone from the little side window. It's still popular today & great that they allow dogs in. Nice friendly staff, good coffee & ice cream. On a cold winters day after exercising the dog it's nice to pop in for a hot drink. As I get near to the ramp from the beach my dog usually trots straight up & into the cafe having been in regularly.

Lovely cafe - and I have always found the coffee great. Not expensive and friendly staff. My mother tells me it’s looked the same since she was a child - so at least 70 years - and that’s what I love about it (and my kids do too). Also you can take your dog inside which is so helpful when it’s freezing outside.

I love this place - not for 'haute cuisine', but you can't improve on the view through those huge windows, nor on the friendliness of the welcome. The coffee is good, too.

Been coming to the Rendezvous Café for 53 years. Used to like the glass Arcoroc cups they had back in the 1960's. We will keep coming until we can't. Love it!

Had a cappuccino and a strawberry tart, plus a large latte. Cost 5 pounds, very reasonable and great views from the table. A must drop in location on the promenade.

Great little cafe right on the front with some of the best views in Tynemouth. There’s a great selection of homemade sandwich’s and cakes to choose from. These can be eaten inside or taken down to the beach. Prices are reasonable considering the location and there’s toilets right next door.

Caring professional, patient staff. One of which noticed my wife gasping for breath and brought a glass of water - very observant. Food very good. Atmosphere "home-from-home" comfortable. Lovely scenic views through the windows. Will definitely make a visit next year.

They sell just the best knickerbocker glory ( called Fantasia ) the staff are great and the place itself hasn't changed since the 1930's. And I am so glad for that. It's a place that is just filled with memories of my childhood. You will never get a better ice-cream anywhere else. Or a better Tuna/Mayo sarnie end of The lady owner is so nice and takes the time for a chat if you want to. Thanks to all the staff xx

Lovely cafe right on the sea front. Good menu and also does take out from a little serving hatch on the side. Coffee was excellent and lovely sat in the sunshine. Friendly staff & good service. This cafe has been featured in several episodes of Vera on ITV as well, which is an added bonus, if you are a fan.

Best bacon butty ever, the icing on the cake would be HP brown sauce instead of the cheap ones, but I take my own so no loss, lovely view over whitley bay and you might even see Vera 😉

My favourite place in Whitley Bay. Even though it pretty much hasn't changed in decades, that sort of adds to the charm of this cafe. You can sit and enjoy the amazing views along the prom and beach from here which is very welcome on a cold or rainy day. They have started putting tables outside which is lovely

We came here at the weekend and had a lovely day. The cafe feels extremely cosy and has the sort of food you'd want to eat by the seaside. It's very popular with dog owners since it's about 20m from the beach which has loads of open space to play in. Would recommend visiting the beach and coming here for a snack

You don't go to Rendezvous for Michelin starred food! It's more club biscuits with a view! But you can't fault its location and you can always find something to eat (usually in a packet!).
