What a place. We drop in regularly for the amazing Portuguese custard tarts and coffee (my partner is from Lisbon and she says they’re amazing). Just had a Sunday roast (beef and chicken), with a chicken liver pâté starter, bread and butter pudding and the most insane blood orange and vanilla cheescake and WOW WOW WOW. We loved it, the kids loved it - best restaurant food in Whitstable. Easily. Highly recommended. ❤️

Been staying locally for work and have been in here a handful of times over the last month. Great food, wonderful atmosphere during the day and especially when it turns into the bar in the evening. A mention to the really handsome guy with the amazing eyes running the bar in the evening, absolutely gorgeous, very charming and extremely funny. Will probably come back in the future just for him.

Always delightful the moment you step through the door. Perfect for coffee and pastries, delicious breakfasts, fabulous lunch menu and evening drinks. Really high quality ingredients, lovingly prepared and presented. The deli has so many treats too, with the tarts and pastries being a favourite of mine. Staff are all so hospitable, friendly and engaging and will always try to accommodate, given how popular the place is with locals and visitors. Booking is a good idea if you have a larger party. I'm always happy to sit and perch on the stools or out front and treat myself to a piece of whitstable charm. It's sad to read vindictive reviews by the likes of Mr Zebra that decide put the boot into local businesses just because he was frustrated. Guess it's easier for him to stamp his feet, scuttle off, hide behind a pretend name, and write untruths, than for him to grow up and show kindness and empathy for people that work so hard :)

Been here a few times for cakes and coffee. Both very good. The Sunday lunch today looked good. The young lady behind the coffee counter was lovely today but the older lady in the lunch/dine in side was very rude.

Brilliant food this lunchtime. Thai fish tacos made with chunky cod in a featherlight batter! Heaven. My husband Ian had the best carbonara he’s ever eaten. The team were fabulous as ever.

I love Rulus. We regularly go in for morning coffees, fresh pastries, tasty lunches, dinners and drinks. Great food, wonderful staff, lovely atmosphere. Sitting outside in the sunshine is the best table in town!

I have to disagree with the previous review. Feels like it was slightly personal and with an agenda. I’ve been going to Rulu’s for years and ALL the staff are amazing and super friendly. Everyone has an opinion these days, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s true. If you can’t say something positive, then perhaps don’t say anything at all. Oh and the food is bloody lovely too! ( practice kindness and respect) x

AMAZING!!! Fabulous hosts with cooked to perfection food to die for! The owners really looked after us and made us feel so welcome. Recommend the lunch menu, especially the linguine and lamb. This is definitely worth a visit for a relaxed lunch with some great wines.

First time to this newish Whitstable deli restaurant. Meal was excellent, quality seasonal dishes, had the carbonara and lamb cutlets with fresh pea and mint risotto. Great to see an establishment serve food worth the price in Whitstable. Lovely place to eat, chilled vibe and nice surroundings. Service was great too.

As locals, there is only one place to eat in Whitstable. A varied, well priced menu, great service, and lovely wines. Don’t get me started on the custard tarts. Always a warm welcome from this professional and hard working team. 10/10.

Has become a weekly occurrence for us to eat at Rulu’s. Food is seasonal and made with love and the coffee is spot on. It’s no surprise that we see the same faces week in, week out, it’s popular with locals and it’s easy to see why. Great service and value for money. See you next week!

Last lunch of the year at my favourite local. Ruth does Linguine every which way and yesterday we had both options - spicy Nduja sausage and pesto. Both delicious. Looked after by the dream team. Merry Christmas!! See you in 2023!

This place really is different class. When top ingredients like this are executed so simply but so excellently and served in a such a warm and welcoming, relaxed environment then you have absolutely nailed the formula for the perfect lunch. Our Second visit today just reaffirming the first experience wasn't in anyway a fluke. Greek salad, crevettes (oh that the sauce) and possibly the best meatballs I have tasted outside of Italy. All just so good….see you guys again very very soon…

Where do you start with this wonderful place? Everyone hopes for one of those places that is small and friendly but big enough to be utterly professional, with great food, tasty local produce, well priced, friendly beyond belief, dog friendly, somewhere everyone is welcomed regardless of whether they go once a year or every day. Ruth and Lucy have created a truly special place and they deserve every recommendation they get for their tasty, great value food and the way they look after everyone.. Delighted how successful they are being, they deserve it.

We were recommended Rulus in the local Fruiterers and had coffee and Portuguese tarts . We returned a few hours later for wonderful cocktails . What a lovely place - fabulous hosts .

Popped in with our dog yesterday to get lunch and had a lovely time. The kind of place where the proprietors (the eponymous Ru and Lu I’m guessing?) came out to chat and feed Daisy treats and we chatted with two other customers. Brilliant food and wine with a seafood theme but not too in your face. I had linguine with morel mushrooms and oyster. Partner had crab tart. Only thing to note is that most of the dining spaces are stools at a bar so if accessibility is an issue I would try to book the sit down table in advance.
