Review The Oak Wigmore - Wigmore

Beth Williams
Everything about this pub is outstanding! The food was absolutely incredible, so many different choices flavour wise but not masses of things to choose from which, in my opinion is perfect! There’s honestly, something for everyone. We had a group of 8 of us and the service was just outstanding, we had the most wonderful time. If you’re in the area or even if you’re not, visit The Oak in Wigmore! You will not be disappointed. Also, if you don’t go then you’re truly missing out!!!! Thank you The Oak for such a fantastic memorable time!

As soon as we opened the door we were greeted with the warmest most genuine welcome we've ever experienced. We knew this was going to be memorable. We had Sunday lunch (pork and beef). Then the two of us couldn't decide what to have for pudding so... we ordered three! Everything was delicious. Service was impeccable throughout. We knew there were regulars in there but not once were we made to feel any different. We'll be going back on our next holiday in January. If you're within even an hour of this place, go!

We had Sunday lunch at The Oak with some friends and the food was outstanding. The flavours of the ingredients complemented each other wonderfully. Well done to the chef. The service was friendly and welcoming. A very good place to eat.

Simply wonderful. Delicious food and fantastic service. One of the nicest dining out experiences I’ve had (and my husband agrees!)

Set in a beautifully converted building, this is an absolute gem of a restaurant in rural Herefordshire. The menu is modern and inventive with local produce at the heart of their ethos. We’ve eaten here on a number of occasions and each time been impressed by the quality of the food, service, plus the owner is friendly and welcoming. Can’t wait to visit again soon!

We have been to the oak numerous time and it has been the best meal of my life each time, the scallops for starter and steak for main course are the best meal I have ever had. Great service and very friendly. Perfect

Driving from deep Wiltshire into deeper Herefordshire, The Oak was not an ‘on your doorstep’ option for us … but we’d be happy to drive much further than that 100 miles to experience its delights again. First glance at the supper menu was reassuringly straightforward – there’s a scallops starter and a parfait on the pudding list – yet the work of Chef Ian Pugh (he of the former Ludlow Michelin Star restaurant, ‘Mr Underhill’s’) is much more surprising; and tantalising. We had the Stone Bass main: delicately pan-fried, moist with caramelised fennel orzotto and enhanced by a delightful, translucent, buttery spring vegetable side. If that was not Mediterranean enough, the wine list offered a complementary (favourite yet underrated) Italian Vermentino. Such designful touches always show, for Simone and me, a restaurant that‘s going (and thinking) the extra mile. It was as hot as hell that September night, but Lene and her staff were bright, sparkling, convivial and undaunted – leaving us in no doubt that, local or visitor, they really cared about guest satisfaction. What’s more, there was something reassuring about that secluded, flatteringly-lit dining space and bar – with it’s promise that ‘tomorrow can wait’. Quite simply, here is a bucolic, Herefordshire country restaurant channeling effervescent confidence – both by cuisine, and in hospitality. And if you’re lucky enough to stay over – as did we - in one of the (two) contemporary and well-considered bedrooms – you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy a ravishing breakfast, too. While The Oak continues to thrive, survive and raise its game … and Lene and Ian boundary-push comfort, consideration and cuisine, we shall all return: again and again. And again.

Incredible food. The Chateaubriand melted in the mouth, the chips were crisp outside yet so fluffy inside, and the Cavalo Nero was a taste sensation. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Came here for an evening meal on Thursday 15th August it was excellent in every respect. From the warm friendly welcome when we arrived, to the excellent service both before and during the meal and the absolutely delicious meal we had.

I enjoyed another melt-in-the-mouth swooningly wonderful meal here last night. I've eaten here at least seven times now. Chef Rory continues to amaze and delight with his superb talent. Tender octopus with hauntingly delicious flavours, followed by thick slices of local venison, rare and juicy, paired with breasts of pigeon. Service is quick, friendly and efficient, including the very hands-on owner Lene who seems to be everywhere at once. The pub section has really good wines. Cannot praise this place enough. Prices are surprisingly reasonable for a Michelin star restaurant. Bookings are essential.

We turned up last night, hoping this pub did food, this pub was a lovely restaurant and although busy, they said it could be an hour before we were sat at a table, we were invited to the upstairs lounge where they brought us drinks and menus and offered us advice on the interesting menu and were ready for us within 20 mins. Three of the staff attended to us throughout the evening and all were great, friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. I had cheese and leak soufflé and the venison, both outstanding. The owner chatted with us for 10 minutes never giving the impression we were holding her up. Decor classy, staff great, food fantastic. Highly recommended! Thank you Simon & Jo

One of the best meals I have had, I have eaten in Michelin Star restaurants and the Oak surpassed them all with the quality of the locally grow food, inspired dishes and plating, friendly service and superb decor. The attention to detail in everything they do is refreshing.

Outstanding. Brilliant staff. All 3 courses were good heaven. Special commendations for the lamb, Skate and Rhubarb compote. I am dairy free which the chef very cleverly catered for. The Macaroons with rhubarb compote were out of this world. Gorgeous surroundings

We had a fantastic meal this evening at the Oak, Not only were the staff helpful and friendly but insisted on giving us a complimentary pudding and drink due to us waiting slightly for our food ( we didn't feel that we waited excessively at all ) and ofcourse the food was faultless we will definitely be returning! Thank you x

Had a wonderful lunch here today. The lady that attended to us (sorry, I didn’t catch her name) could not have done anymore for us if she tried, we took our 8 month old son and they were brilliant with him! The Black Bomber soufflé is a must try and the Bakewell tart went down a storm with our little one. Will definitely be returning, the best meal we’ve had out in a very long time and cannot wait to try more off of the menu!

Fantastic night at short notice for 21 people, nothing too much effort, the staff were all fantastic and completely aware of all our needs, the food was outstanding and in a great setting. Couldn't have asked for more! We'll all be back thanks for having us.
