Okami Japanese Steakhouse

Our server and chef were great!! Could not have asked for better. My family and I love to try different Japanese steak houses and then discuss. We have eaten at more upscale/intimate establishments so the decor was a little lacking. Soup was very good. Vegetables were also very good. Chicken was super tender but would have preferred hibachi but they served teriyaki. But overall chicken was very good. Steak could have been more tender. Scallops were a no go. Rice needed more seasoning. Portion size was good. I would give it a 6.5 out of 10.

Our server, Nick, was fantastic! Highly recommend to request him. Both I and my husband have worked in restaurants for years and that was such great service. He was fun, happy, attentive at all the right times, watched our table without interrupting, cleared dishes away accordingly, refreshed drinks when needed, and was upfront if something would take a minute even if it didn’t. We didn’t feel rushed even with the amount of tables he had, but also never had to wait for him to come back. All you can eat sushi is so good here and now is the only place in town you can get it and it doesn’t take hours to get the rolls even at the amount we ordered. Great flavors and presentation. Drinks were also good. But again, Nick was exceptional and probably deserves a raise!

Get there early as the line can get long! We had the all you can eat sushi. Every roll was good. The appetizers were small in portion, but they are included in the all you can eat too so you can always order more. FYI...they do have soy wrap and you can have that on the all you can eat menu. It's just a buck more. With two boys, definitely a deal and we will return.

UPDATE: Original review has been edited from 3 to 5 stars due to contact from the manager to make it right. The person that said they didn't have the mustard sauce is new and was unaware that it is available upon request. The food is consistently good but today I paid for 1 pint of ginger dressing and got 1 pint ginger sauce and they no longer supplied their mustard sauce (which is why I ordered extra white sauce to replace with, since I ordered a pint of the white sauce). The score is because I was not told that it couldn't be supplied PRIOR to picking up the order (they have called me before when there was a question with my order) but no call, etc! I would have edited my order (which would have included removing several of the extra sauces that I paid for)had I been informed. I always order the mustard and they previously made it for me if they didn't already have some made. Disappointed!!!!!!

We had a large family group there for supper last night (with an advance reservation, of course) and the service, the Chef, and the food were all great! The children that had never been to a hibachi restaurant enjoyed the food "show" and the chef answered their questions, as he cooked. The wait staff was friendly and efficient. The food was tasty, with large portions. We enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back!

We missed the lunch rush so had a more relaxed meal. The chef we had was entertaining, engaging and knew his trade. Meal was tasty and portions generous. Decor seemed a forced afterthought, placed rather than organic to the building. Our daughter raves about their sushi, though I can't personally attest to the quality.

We kept passing by this place everytime we visit Wilmington. We were finally able to try it! We only did the buffet so this rating is only for the buffet not the hibachi. Anyway, we were there before the opening and it can get pretty busy real quickly! Luckily, we were able to sit after waiting in line for few minutes. Our server was very patient with us while we take our time to order. My husband loves yum yum sauce with his sushi and holy mackerel, we never expected a soup of yum yum sauce which is great! The sushi portions are so big, I suggest you order it slowly as the servers isn’t he restaurant are pretty attentive with your needs! We mostly ordered the tempura crunchy stuff in the menu and the crunchiness didn’t disappoint. It was a lot though but we were able to finish everything. I wish the age tofu was already dipped in a sauce since it was pretty big me trying to dip it in the sauce. Anyhow, we enjoyed our dinner. We would definitely come back to try out their hibachi someday!
