An amazing pub for every occasion, food is amazing and 100% worth a visit to try the Sunday roast or a midweek lunch always delightful. As for the beer it's spot on with ever changing selection of some great ales and also some classic lagers like the curious brew on tap currently. If you ever in Wivenhoe it's worth taking the time to sit by the open fire and take it all in while drinking a classic ale.

Just had a stunningly good meal in The Black Buoy! Last time we visited Wivenhoe this place was closed. It has had a fantastic makeover and we will definitely be coming back - fair winds allowing as we have sailed here! Would highly recommend both the food and the very friendly and helpful staff :)

We had a really lovely lunch yesterday for my mums Birthday. And realised after we left they had taken my mums meal off the bill as 'Birthday meal' Such a lovely thing to do!!! As well as bringing her a complementary chocolate pudding with a candle! Really lovely service and Fab food as always!!! Thankyou

Brilliant food, Friendly staff, very busy on a sunday afternoon but we didn't wait long for our food and it was wonderful! I can recccomend the nut roast! Usually good veggie options and great choice of beers. Peter Watts wine is also fantastic! we found a cosy by the fire.

I have been here numerous times and always leave with a smile on my face. The staff are always friendly, helpful and happy to answer any questions you have about their food or beer. The food is never a disappointment and good value for your money. Can't wait till next time

Loved the window seating and the helpful staff. They put up with all our questions and were very attentive. Great relaxed atmosphere with a small bar and lots of tables. The food was delicious and got to try the Colchester #1 after walking up the footpath from Colchester. Didn't even realise there was a local beer until the server brought it up! Excellent cask pull draught to go with their wild chips and tuna melt. Didn't get to check out the beer garden, but it looked great and relaxing! Dog friendly place and a few people brought their pups in while we were there. Always fun to get some puppy love after a good meal.

We stopped for lunch. The staff were friendly, and the food was very good. We had the loaded chips, and each had a sandwich for lunch. I had a couple of pints of Colchester #1, a local brewery ale. Definitely recommend.

My partner and I had a lovely lunch thisnafternoon. He had fish l, chips and a side of peas and I had burger, chips and a side salad. Both equally as lovely. We sat in the garden, I was able to sit inn shade while my partner sat in the sun so we got the best of both worlds. Lovely people behind the bar and also lovely lady that served us. We would go back for sure.

Head some late evening pints in this fine establishment on the weekend of the rained off regatta. The weather certainly didn’t affect the mood of the crowd and as for the staff, they were brilliant. Tracy and Ross even walked us back to our hotel as there wasn’t a cab to be seen ! Great spot. Will be back at Christmas 😎

The vegan fish and chips were lovely and obviously home made so really nice addition- but could have been a thinner piece of tofu and actually have tasted nicer

Having lived in the area my whole life I'm suprised I haven't been in here before. Beautiful pub, staff were lovely. Me and my partner chose the home made burgers, massive portions and could tell care was taken into making it. Large outdoor terrace area, ideal for summer drinks. Will definitely be back

A wide range of well-kept ales and the food was excellent, I had the steak and ale pie for dinner, it was delicious. Unfortunately, I had no room for the gorgeous looking home made desserts that people at the next table had. Breakfast the next day did not disappoint, tasty and generously sized. And the room was clean and comfortable. Will definitely visit again.
