Six of my family were there for lunch yesterday. My family are regular visitors but this was my first visit. It was great. I had the lamb shank roast dinner which was delicious and really hot. I would recommend it to anyone. The staff were friendly and efficient. I'm having the belly pork next time. Great place!
We went yesterday the staff were very helpful & friendly even put our water bottles off our bikes in the fridge to keep them cool. We had 3 courses & the food was fantastic, I had steak & asked for it well done & rather than the charcoaled piece of meat I usually get served at restaurants this came up juice but cooked property not even pink. The long cosmopolitans were the best definitely be back Xx

Had a lovely Mother’s Day meal yesterday. Food was really nice, service was fast and the staff were very friendly especially our waitress. Was our first time here and will definitely be back again!

Fantastic family dinner for my Mum birthday. There was 8 of us on a Sunday evening and every one of eight said food was delicious, was a huge choice of menu, and service was friendly efficient and we all can’t wait to dine again. All eight of us had roast of some sort and rib of beef was a hit and so good they do a veggie roast to suit me and my mum. The atmosphere is in pub is lovely too. Dine here you won’t be disappointed.
We had a meal here yesterday and we were very impressed we turned up at 1 pm and it was packed the manager said there was a hours wait so we decided to sit at the bar and have a drink . We were seated exactly a hour later which we were happy about and everybody from the manager to the bar staff and waitresses were very friendly , the meals were all lovely and very hot and we would highly reccomend and we would definitely return
I went for a lunch date with my husband today and can't thank the staff enough. Our waitress Hayley was really helpful. I am currently following slimming world therefore there were lots of things I couldn't have. Hayley suggested alternative options which were actually really nice and all within my daily allowance. Excellent service and lovely food. Thank you for the lovely lunch even though I'm on a diet!

This pub is superb.! Food is tasty and service is just great. We have been seated immediately and offered drinks (great beer selection). The blond lady, her name was hard to remember but I hope we are correct here (Marketa) was just lovely! Nothing was problem for her. We love our fish&chips and wasnt dissapointed. We will be back soon.
The food we had here was from the festive menu, and was a good mix to suit most tastes.
The starter was a reasonable size, although another slice of toast would have meant that I would have spread my terrine thinner.
My main course.beef cheeks, whilst delicious had too much gravy for my tastes, and this was a lot runnier than the other people with the same dish that had a thicker jus. I had to ask for a spoon so that i could get this delicious sauce.
Whilst a minor issue i thought that the two servings would of at least been consistent.
The dessert was a lovely baked burnt orange cheesecake that finished the meal off perfectly without being too heavy.
We had a good meal here and was content with our server Josh who was attentive throughout the evening without bothering us too much.
The setting made us feel very festive and homely.
Im sure we will visit again in the future to explore further mouth watering dishes.

Absolutely lovely waitress (Georgia I think?) was so really sweet and attentive, in saying that the staff have never been my issue ….it’s more food in the past.
The food was much better than I remember from last visit - we all cleared our plates! I only had pie and mash, one friend had a chicken n chips dish the other tried the gnocchi from the chef special menu and was pleasantly surprised! I hope they keep it up!
Good English pub food. Nicely decorated clean pub with large outdoor seating area. On the couple of times I’ve visited over the last year, which luckily avoided peak times, the experiences have been fine, with only one occasion where the food took longer than expected. However be aware that, based on comments from others during the visits, the food service can be slow with very long delays at peak times. It seems the kitchen tends to be understaffed, whilst on at least one occasion there were plenty of bar staff. Maybe it was just unfortunate circumstances on the days I visited. Recommend avoiding peak times to be on the safe side. Otherwise food was great, and we were able to get food around 9pm on a Wednesday night when other places had already closed their kitchen. What a gorgeous find on my way out of Chelmsford! The Manager and his wife were welcoming and attentive. The food was hot and delicious! I highly recommend this hidden retreat for its food and hospitality!
What a find. We loved this pub. Traditional with the most delicious food. We had a Burns Night set menu which was brilliant. So much to choose from and extremely reasonable. The staff were very friendly and professional. Highly recommend it. Think there's a chance that we are going to become regulars.
Lovely sitting outside in the sun, we enjoyed two halloumi ciabattas which were very tasty

Just a few miles outside of Chelmsford centre and with plenty of free parking outside, I popped in for an enjoyable afternoon lunch at the Horse & Groom a few weeks ago with my wife and 5 year old son. Shorty after arriving we were informed that a number of items were off the menu (including all dishes with chicken) because of a delivery issue, so we were a little sceptical. To be fair, there were plenty of other options on the menu and the food that we ordered was good, and the service was very friendly. I would definitely return again for a decent no thrills lunch at reasonable prices.
Our waitress Markita tonight was just the best we could wish for, as we had some issue with tesco vouchers and she helped a lot and waited patiently till we could find them. I had first time cheescake at pub and was so well presented and very yummy.
A truly fabulous restaurant with exceptional service and the food might I add was cooked to absolute perfection. It has been over ten years since our last visit for which we was surprised how the quality of the food just keeps on getting better and better. We will return again soon.
A nice cosy atmosphere, food great a varied choice on the menu . Nice dessert menu too.

My wife and I had a meal there last night ( 19/12/21) and were served by Ella-may. Fortunately I had phoned a couple of days earlier to inform her of my wife's dietary requirements and we received superb meals for both of us. It is extremely rare to get that on a first visit to any new restaurant and we thank everyone concerned. Tony

We returned for a Sunday roast, but unfortunately, the food wasn't up to standard. The roast potatoes, parsnips, and carrots were very under cooked, pale roast potatoes and hard uncooked veg. Meats were nice a we're the deserts.
