Hands down the best Sunday lunch I’ve ever had! What a wonderful restaurant, we will certainly be back soon. The team were amazing and provided exceptional levels of service through the meal! 10/10 AMAZING
A very good, well presented and very well prepared and cooked Sunday lunch. We had the three course, and had the beef main. It was very good indeed. The staff were very attentive, and courteous. Would recommend.
Delicious roast lunch! The chicken terrine is divine and lunch Indian flavours. The roast beef melts in your mouth and the gravy is delicious and sticky. The cod had crispy skin and flaky and juicy, was amazing!
A perfect Sunday Lunch. Beautiful food, great service and generous portions. The photos show it all but have to add that the flavours were great and loved the way staff explained dishes to you. Also liked the way they offered more "well done" versions of the meat (not an issue for us but table next to us appreciated it)

As it was for a special occasion we decided to try the 8 course taster menu and we were so glad we did !!!!! Each and every course was thoughtfully constructed and cooked superbly, they have some seriously talented chefs in the kitchen and lovely front of house staff who were knowledgeable and provided excellent service! They treated us better than our supposed 5* hotel did!
Seriously impressed with this place and as we visit York often I would love to go again!
For foodies who like to be surprised and don't mind trying things out of their comfort zone I would absolutely recommend!!!

We ate right at the end of the service (9pm table) and the food and service were fantastic. We have complex food allergies and the staff were lovely about it. The chef was accommodating and the food was excellent, as was the wine pairing.
If I had to be super critical, I'd say the gluten free alternative on one accompaniment of the 8 courses could have been better (seed cracker vs sourdough), and one of the beef elements of one course could've been softer, but these would be remarkably marginal improvements in what is an outstanding tasting menu. As a coeliac, it's hard to get a good tasting menu and this is one I would highly recommend.
The staff were extremely knowledgeable and the service was both friendly and professional. Particular thanks to Rachel for her excellent explanation of the wines, which constituted a fantastic flight that we would highly recommend.
All in all, the Rattle Owl is an excellent dinner spot, and I imagine a great place to lunch, although our experience was confined to the wonderful tasting menu.

This restaurant deserves to be on the Michelin Guide immediately, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they received their first star in the coming year or two. Stunning 8 course tasting menu with wine pairing, full of creativity and locally sourced ingredients. The service quality, local source and creativity, and flavour pallets compares to all the Michelin starred restaurants I’ve been to in the UK. We had minor dietary restrictions and the servers and chefs took great care of us. The highlight of our stunning weekend to York. Thank you!
Amazing culinary experience in a cosy setting. Perfect spot for special occasions ! The food was just enough to feel satisfy with hunger. The food is locally sourced and each course is fully catered to your dietery requirement (vegetarian friendly). We were sat upstairs, and contrary to other comments I read, it is actually a nice cosy spot. The food is definitely a five stars and service is immaculate. Only negative take: the bathroom was in a terrible state, which you would not expect from a fine establishment.
Had the tasting 'menu', which was very nice. The drinks pairings (only a few are red/white wines) are excellent and work very well with the food, making this a distinctive experience. Ridiculously, they don't tell you what you actually get to eat other than the announcement when they bring it to the table, just the drinks pairings and a suppliers list are printed (you might think you're missing something on the website, you're not).
