Drakes fish and chip shop in York does very nice gluten free fish and they also do gluten free scraps as well and I really enjoyed it and I would recommend it to other people that eat gluten free
We had gluten free battered fish and chips, a lovely big pot of tea, we were given gluten free bread and asked if we'd like gluten free vinegar. The staff were really coeliac knowledgeable and made our evening REALLY pleasant. Nothing was too much trouble. We had a visit York booklet which we were looking at and were given free peas with our dinner, totally unexpectedly just because we had the booklet and they have an advert in it. Everyone was amicable and said cheerio when we left. Lovely food with Lovely staff
Me and my grandma came in today as we visited York for the third time. We wanted to try this place for the first time around dinner time and we were unsure what would happen. We got introduced by two women who were super nice and we felt loved as we got seated as a table of two. We ordered two regular haddock and chips which was average time to cook and to be served. The atmosphere and scenery was beautiful and the food was AMAZING! The utensils are clean and the tables are also so organised for your seating. The staff care so much and ask if you’re okay and if you’re having any problems. Honestly, we are coming here again because the respect is spot on. Needs more notice!
First and foremost… the food was amazing, fantastic haddock quality and light batter. Positions were generous and chips were lovely.
Service unfortunately let the experience down a bit.
Meal prices are very reasonable as well.
Why can't all fish & chips be cooked in beef dripping? Can really taste the difference. I'd been looking forward to this since arriving in Yorkshire! 😋 yum yum! Also recommend locally made steak pies!
After looking at the menu outside myself and my son decided to give it ago. My son ordered the chicken burger, chips and slaw. I ordered the mini fish and chips. This arrived within the space of 15 mins.
The fish and chips were devine. Its the best fish I've had in a while. Proper fish and chips.
My son really enjoyed his chicken burger to. Also had two apple juices. Everything came to £29 which was acceptable.
The waiting staff were polite and came back to the table to make sure everything was to our liking.
We will definitely be going back in the next few weeks.
Really enjoyed our food here. The fish taco is pretty good and the portion size for the fish and chips is generous so unless you have a big appetite, a regular will fill you up just fine.
I loved everything about Drakes...
This restaurant is a hidden gem in York. It's like a little seaside escape in the middle of the city. The staff? Friendly as can be, and they made us feel right at home.
The fish was incredibly fresh, and that crispy batter was like a crunchy flavor explosion. And the chips? Perfectly crispy and seasoned just right. I could've devoured a mountain of those!
The quality was top notch and get so much for your money with generous portions.
I can't wait to go back for another round of fishy goodness!
If you want fish and chips in York, this is the place. Plenty on the menu to choose from, lovely restaurant/seating area as well as take away. Food was cooked to perfection. Staff were lovely. They serve beer as well. A fine establishment and will come here again.
Went here on a recommendation of a friend. Was seated pretty quickly to say how busy it was. Staff were really lovely. The food took 30 mins to come which I assume meant it was cooked fresh. The food was delicious when it arrived and plenty of food on a regular haddock and chips. The only thing was there was a door to a cellar storage or something where we were sat and when it was opened there was a horrible smell.
The best fish and chips I've ever had!
Went in on whim, came out happier than ever.
Portions were just right, food was piping hot. Service was prompt. And the food was mouth wateringly good! I've never had a fish and chip supper like it (mushy peas, tartar sauce and a lemon wedge); it even came with a pot of Yorkshire tea. It wasn't greasy, over/under cooked or flavourless. Freshest fish I've ever had, I was unsure, because Cod wasn't on the menu, but I must say the Haddock was to die for! (Melted in my mouth)
The restaurant itself was warm and welcoming. Nicely decorated with a good atmosphere.
On the night we went, there was live music (Sam and Dave you were awesome), we ate and sang along to the classics. It was a fantastic first night in York, the staff were friendly and attentive. Shout out to Danielle, she did an amazing job, a friendly and professional server. She even advised us on where to go for a night out later on! Super helpful person.
The quality of service and food, made it well worth it. Price wasn't too bad either ...for everything we got it was a cheap as chips😂.
I can't wait to go back to York...especially for Drakes Haddock and chips.
You will be back again if try once... great place to have quality meal...
