Fantastic!! Rump was tasty, great Yorkshire pudding, peppercorn sauce gravy awesome. Tomahawk pork chop special was delicious, perfectly cooked. Chicken ham hock pie was really good. Great service, nice for families or for adults, great little niches for everyone!
Had a fantastic early evening meal of Fish and chips at this gem of a pub! Fillet fried to perfection and lovely chips with mushy pea side dish. Unlike most other pub/restaurants it was just the right portion abd done very well! Excellent choice of beers and spirits as well as traditional and contem
I came here a month ago with my daughter & booked for the Sunday dinner last night as the menu has other stuff than a roast dinner & my daughter fancied something else. My daughter really fancied a burger but it wasn't on the Sunday menu - we asked if there was anyway they could do us a burger & the
Super cosy pub and very tasty dinner. My only complaint is that you cannot tip by card, the staff must miss out on so many tips, which is a real shame ☹️
We visited while on a motorbike ride to York. The staff were friendly, the fact we were wearing bike leathers wasn't a problem. We ordered food, which was amazing!! There were really lovely, home made chips. The food was excellent value for money, and the service was outstanding. We sat upstairs and
A traditional hostelry with an ancient, yet comfortable feeling, a convenient location for the city centre, York Minster and other city centre attraction and only 5 minutes walk from the market and main shopping area. There's a warm welcome, with a friendly smile. The prices were excellent and the l

Our family of five visited The Royal Oak for dinner and drinks and are very happy with our experience. It’s no small feat to satisfy all of us but the staff came through and delivered delicious food and drink and provided a comfortable atmosphere. We will certainly be returning.
I have been living in York over 10 years and I had been inside until Easter Monday evening. I decided to have something to eat and popped in. Before work...!! Very well kept pub, high ceilings and some nice little snug rooms. It felt like secret rooms There was a conservatory room at the back of th
We visited York for the weekend and visited quite a few pubs, this was our favourite! Proper old-skool boozer, great atmosphere with friendly staff. We visited in summer but the front bar has a fire which I bet is smashing in the winter!
This a what pubs should be like in York, amazing vibe and well preserved 17th century pub that sells good beer and the food is some of the best I have tried in York. The fish and chips were amazing.
I had lunch with big groups a couple of times at the Royal Oak and we really enjoyed everything there. The service managed by Jasmine is very efficient, she makes sure everything is taken care of. Eve is really nice and helpful, and Gareth cooks really tasty food, and takes good care of every custom
