Decent place to stay if you need somewhere close to York centre on a budget. Great location 15 mins walk from all the action and a two minute stroll down to the Riverside walks which are lovely. Great place to stay if you got dogs. Free parking. The only let down for us and why it's not a 5/5 was a fairly expensive breakfast which should have been 10/10 for the price (£12.50 each), whereas I'd give it a 7.5/10.

Stayed here with a few friends while visiting from the US. Great location for exploring the City. River walk to City Centre was lovely and all major destinations were a reasonable distance. Staff were friendly and accommodating and the Pub was fun. The apartment gave us plenty of space to relax and spread out. If I get the opportunity to revisit to York, I would make a point to return to The Lighthorseman.

Gerne wieder einmal. (Translated by Google) We were only there one night. The rooms are older but everything was very clean. The pub below is very cozy. Breakfast was great. The team is very friendly. The location is great, right on the river with the dog and very quickly in the center. Gladly again.

We were made welcome immediately! Our accommodation, ensuite was perfect! And very comfortable: we slept so well, and awoke refreshed! Our breakfast was delicious, and precisely what we ordered. I love history: and being in the ACTUAL Officers' Mess, of The Yorkshire Regiment of The Lighthorsemen, and Tennyson's poem, plus paintings and photograghs were on the walls! The building also has beautiful stained glass, and painted glass on doors and some windows. A lovely area for outside enjoyment, and more than enough parking, once we had booked in... We cannot wait to return!

Not sure about the rooms as we went to watch the champions league but it's a cosy enough pub with standard prices for drinks 🤷‍♂️ staff were nice! Nice lil Corner pub!

I might have been here once before with Jorvic but certainly first visit with Paulicarus. Using the pub as a hotel for the night. Excellent value for York, £70 a night. Twin room with TV, full size bath plus tea and coffee with bikkies. Breakfast £12 extra. Room 6 is on Fulford Rd so is noisy. Will need a beer slumber tonight. Bonus is that the hotel is a Thwaites pub, one real ale out of three available on arrival. A serviceable IPA. Good Madri. Three nice rooms make up the pub, one for pool, plus a nice rear courtyard. They do hot food.

Lovely old building. The rooms are spotless. The food and beer were great. So convenient for the Barbican and the city centre

Bartender Lauren was so attentive and welcoming, deserves a raise. Really enjoyed my time. She’s a lovely girl and the vibes were a 10/10. Definitely recommend.

Excellent stay here , period charm of staying in an original Victorian pub. Rooms are basic and clean, breakfast excellent as is the service, good selection of beers at reasonable prices, it may not suit those who are used to staying in high end hotels , but this is a different experience altogether, back to how accomodation used to be done with its own character, I couldn't fault anything

Loved my night here, some small issues with the room but nothing major and for the price I couldn't really complain and would possibly visit again sometime.

Great place to stay when visiting York. Lovely rooms, great breakfasts and the staff were very welcoming. A lovely walk down the riverside to get in to town which only took about 10 minutes with a few pubs on the way. Couldn't have asked for a better location or place to stay. Would definitely recommend and stay there again.

Hidden gem. We booked to stay, last minute, and didn't really check all the details before hand. Fortunately we were more than satisfied. The accommodation was perfect for my partner and I and my parents. The staff were all lovely and it's located a ten/fifteen minute walk from central York.
