Just happened upon Shirley's when wandering through York last week. I only went in for a coffee, but could not resist the fresh out of the oven sun dried tomato and cheddar scones. They were served with cheese and delicious home made chutneys. Lovely cosy friendly atmosphere with happy cheerful staff. Will visit again next time I go to York.

Get yourself to The Red House Cafe when in York. Amazing home cooked scones and cake and a very friendly greeting from the staff. Excellent value for money too.

Home made food at reasonable prices. Just to add to my review. I have been to The Red House Cafe quite a few times now and have seen how fresh everything is. Every order is made fresh and individually. The homemade bread, scones, cakes and jams are really excellent, equally as good, if not better than the other well known cafe just up the road. The staff are all very helpful and friendly and will cater to everyone's individual needs. Definitely the place to go.

A hidden gem! Had a wonderful time having the afternoon tea. The food is so fresh and tasty and the Rocky Road is the best I have ever tasted. Shirley is amazing, so friendly and efficient, so glad to have found this café, I will definitely be back soon.

Very friendly staff and helpful. Reasonable in price with sandwiches and pasties. Cold and hot beverages available and a nice selection of sandwiches for this quaint little place. Nice place to sit and relax. And apparently they have quiche but not today.

A hidden gem tucked away in the middle of York! The service was friendly and personable and the food was delicious! It even catered for my vegetarian friends. An all round must visit.

This is a lovely cafe, you have to climb quite a few stairs to get inside the cafe but you can take your time and it's well worth it, lovely food all fresh, beautiful scones and cakes, the ladies were very friendly and helpful, prices are good, for the good food and service you get, would recommend this place to anyone.
