1st visit, but won’t be the last, lovely pub, meal & staff, definitely recommend 😄
We ate here twice in three days as we were staying at the Premier Inn next door. We were served by Karen and Mariusz, both of whom were friendly, polite and attentive. Good Customer service right there. It was a lovely place with plenty of room inside - not tables all crammed together to get as many in as possible as you see in some places. All the food we had was of good quality and great taste but the picks have to be the duo of lamb, the pie of the day and honeypot dessert. The lamb rump was juicy, tender and succulent while the shepherds pie was rich and full of flavour. The pie was steak and red wine and the steak melted in your mouth. The honeypot dessert was quite exquisite- a little chocolate honey pot filled with mousse and honeycomb. If we lived in York, this would certainly become one of our regulars.
Beautiful little pub. Had a pie dinner with a glass of coke and it was exceptional quality. The only thing lacking about my experience was the initial reception when I walked in. Grant it, Sunday lunchtime is one of the busiest times but I'd have expected more than being just told that "sorry there's no room". There were a few tables down the left as you come in and settled down there eventually.
Otherwise, nice experience. All other staff were lovely.
Came here one evening whilst staying at the nearby Premier Inn.
Thoroughly recommended, very cosy place with a lovely open fire inside the restaurant area. Would certainly recommend booking earlier in the day as it does get very busy and tends to be fully booked if left too late.
The food was lovely, priced around what you'd expect nowadays given the style of the place. Drinks were reasonable too, and with a good choice of Non-alcoholic/alcohol free options which made a nice change.
Part of Vintage Inns, so would recommend picking up their app to get a hold of some discounts and loyalty offers too, as we easily saved £20 on the bill.
Came to The Dormouse for my 23rd birthday and was welcomed by Karen. Great service and very accommodating, had a delicious meal cooked by chefs Scott and Nick - trio roast dinners, the biggest burgers I’ve seen, a puff pastry pie, and a beautifully cooked steak followed by mini puddings and coffee!
Been here several times and never disappoints. Bit more expensive than it used to be but that's the world today. Had the most amazing dessert.
We had a very pleasant evening. The food was great and the service was excellent. A big shout out to Warren the waiter who was extremely patient and very entertaining. My daughter left saying he was the best waiter we’d ever had. Would definitely recommend.
We have just returned from my wife’s Birthday meal. I had the chef’s special pork belly with black pudding mash and my wife had the aubergine parmigiana. Both meals were excellent, as were the mocktails (she’s 39 weeks pregnant!). Mariusz looked after us and was a fantastic host. We will definitely be coming back!
It's always a pleasure to go for a meal in the beautiful Ambiente of the Dormouse. The food and service are of equal high quality.
6 of us for tea time meal. The food was OK, the outstanding meal was the aubergine dish with the special burger the next. Warren the waiter was exceptional picking up on my allergy to cheese checking that the chips were not cooked in the same frier as cheese dishes. Plus his wit and conversation with us and the children was refreshing. An asset to any business. We will be back.
This is our local and place we use for easy family meet ups. Nice interior, good food and sensible prices. Helpful staff and good service every time we've been. Well worth a visit.
