I'm a Guinness fan and this place was a must for me. The decor of the place is stunning - as for this type of bars, it is very clean and all the tables and furniture are as new. Friendly service and delicious beer.
Quaint old pub in a nice historical area of Aberdeen. Steak pie looked great.
What an awesome spot. Great music, wide beer selection, and the food was fabulous. Went back later in the evening for traditional scotish country music.
I visited the place twice within a week with colleagues while we were in Aberdeen for a conference. Both times were great: great food, fantastic service. Particularly the waitress was absolutely amazing.
The second time we visited, there was an accident or some sort, with ambulances arriving (do not know exactly what happened, and that is not the important part either) - the waitress (whose name I unfortunately never got) was an absolute rockstar. Keeping up with orders going out to the tables, while dealing with the situation - and at the same time being so incredibly nice. When we asked if she was okay, she sounded more worried about her manager than herself. This lovely woman deserves a bonus, a raise, a vacation - something!
Absolutely recommend. Tried the katsu chicken burger and the fish n’ chips, and both were amazing.
I often go to Old Blackfriars with my fiends. The food, staff, price of drinks and atmosphere is great. We can sit for hours catching up in the place. My favourite dishes are fish and chips and Katsu chicken burger. I highly recommend the pub. If you've not been yet, it is a must!
Pleasant evening spent in here. Decent size pub, nice inside and tv screen (football on at the time). Good choice of drinks and decent food menu. Bar staff were very friendly
Pleasant pub with a very high level of cleanliness. It felt fresh and the food and drinks were just what we were looking for at the time. Awesome Chicken Tikka and a good enough fish and chips. The house red was perfectly drinkable!
I've been three times and gotten the fish and chips twice, which was really good, and the steak and ale pie the third time, which was amazing, even though we could tell it wasn't made there, just reheated. I was surprised the cheesecake wasn't made in-house as it was really one of the best I have had.
There were two people working the last two times I went, a younger woman with long red hair who was polite and professional, and an older guy with longish hair who was less polite, and seemed annoyed that we were there, even though we were only one table out of 3 eating. Even on Christmas eve, for dinner, he seemed less than pleased to have us there.
Overall it's a pretty cool atmosphere with good food.
Nice place in Castle Gate. Very traditional food and the usual things to be found. Give it a go.
First tip visit and really enjoyed.
Friendly and welcome staff and atmosphere
Had the steak pie which was really good
Will def visit again
