Outstanding! We visited once whilst holidaying in Alston and the food was so good we went back for more (not on the sale day πŸ˜„). Chips cooked to perfection. The oils the chips are cooked in make all the difference when producing a great chip and clearly they're using a high grade oil. Battered fish was just mouth watering, fish was as soft as cotton wool and the batter just right. Also, excellent value for money, portion sizes were more than ample. A very competitive business so if you're passing through this gorgeous little town then make sure you're hungry and pop in for some excellent food.

The best !!! Beautiful fish and chips in gray paper something wonderful. Everything smells !!! fresh !!! The price is adequate to the quality and size of the portion. I have eaten at different places but here I understood why the English love it. Hats off !!! Gordon Ramsay go check it out !!!

Lovely fish & chips served by Helen. We placed a large order and waited a while but it was well worth the wait as it was absolutely delicious! Everything is cooked to order, and the fish tastes really good, especially with the flavoured coatings! There was a Halloween special on and the Fish & Chips was only Β£5.50, which made it even better!

Cracking fish supper, scampi supper & sausage supper. All cooked fresh. Loads of it too. Great chat with the owner while waiting.

The best gluten free fish and chips we've ever had. Three of us (all gluten intolerant) had been walking on the Pennine Way all day and fancied something quick and easy for refuelling. We'd heard The High Plaice did gf fish and chips and so rang to check what days they were available (most friers only do gf on certain days). We were delighted to hear that The High Plaice does gf each and every day that they are open, they just need 30 minutes' notice to heat up the gf fryer. So, three portions of fish and a large chips, with gf curry sauce and oh my word, just amazing! The fish was the size of a small whale, the batter amazingly light and crispy (again, unusual for gf which is often soggy and thick) and the chips freshly fried, hot and salty. Curry sauce packed a punch and so delicious. All just so good to eat, and the staff didn't seem fazed by my muddy trousers, flushed complexion (I had just done 12 miles in the sun) or the feather which I'd stuck in my hair sometime earlier in the day and had forgotten about. Really great food and lovely service, would highly recommend.

Lovely fresh fish, a good selection of take away food. Or you can sit inside or there are seats, tables n benches on paved area outside. The prices are good n there's a choice of portion sizes. The chip shop is clean n tidy. Look in the window for an old photo of the building n an interesting write up about it. The staff are a lovely bunch of people even when they're rushed off their feet with a queue of hungry customers.

Really good quality and a good price. Wide selection of burgers and suchlike as well. I had a Cumberland sausage which was both large and tasty. I would recommend. Especially on a sunny day when you can sit outside.

Who said you have to go to the coast for great fish and chips? This place was the easiest 5 stars I have ever given. Its a good job this place is so far away fron me or I would end up very very fat. Keep up the fantastic work guys!

Visited this fantastic establishment twice recently. On each occasion the chips were freshly cooked to order and were crisp and fluffy and tasted great. The social distancing arrangements are great as you order from the doorway and they bring them out to you so its all very well organised and covid19 secure. Highly recommended πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
