Red Lion

Was very impressed by this charming village pub - my group had a lovely table by the window, which was very comfortable. Service was attentive and friendly, and the wait for the food was well worth it - I had the turkey roast and it was absolutely delicious, only rivalled by my mum's unbeatable homemade roast. It tasted freshly made and all the ingredients were of high quality. A great experience and the perfect place to fuel up before going on a walk around the stone circles.

Took an Australian to the historic stones nearby and decided on lunch in the pub. I don't often give 5 star to anyone but the mixed grill was spot on. Booking is advised as it got very busy very quickly. Staff were very friendly. Halloween time so plenty of local witches, warlocks and druids to admire. Even a little live music curtesy of one of the locals on the guitar. 👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👌🏻

Pretty pub in the atmospheric village of Avebury, with friendly service and attentive manager and excellent food. I loved the vegan mushroom and ale pie and unusual G&Ts! To avoid disappointment, note that it's important to book for dinner - if they have no bookings for an evening, they may close the kitchen. 100% recommend!

My parents were down visiting and we decided to go out for a drive on what has to be the wettest day ever and luckily ended up at the Red Lion. I’d driven past it many times before but this was the first time I’d actually been in. I wasn’t disappointed. It is a beautiful venue, smack bang in the middle of the village, in the centre of the famous inner standing stone circle. We must have visited at a busy time as we couldn’t get a parking space and had to park down near a church two minutes down the road. We ordered lunch and didn’t have to wait long for the drinks or food to arrive. The only issue we had with the order was they’d forgotten the side of chips we’d ordered and we had to go and chase them. Otherwise the food was good but the Ciabatta’s used on the lunch menu items were very hard and difficult for my parents to finish. I would return here again but on a much better day. I would love to sit outside as the Red Lion had lots of lovely looking outdoor space. I bet on a beautifully sunny summers day with an ice cold drink in hand, looking over at the stores in the next field, would be an amazing experience indeed.

Unusual table for lunch at The Red Lion Avebury, last Sunday 21st May 2023. The old village well dating from 1600! Rumour has it, that there are a couple of villagers still at the bottom. Had a really tasty lunch in pleasant surroundings. Staff were friendly and helpful. I had the trio of three roast meats, and my companions had the roast loin of pork and the steak and ale pie. Nice atmosphere, I highly recommend. 😊
