Templars Hotel & Restaurant

Very poor hotel. Tired and in need of urgent updates to the whole place. Found a little friend in the bathroom, so God knows what else was in the room. The walls are so thin you can hear other residents conversations. Reception and bar area not welcoming at all and smelt like stale beer. Staff standing on the front steps having a cigarette as you walk in wasnt quite the welcome I had in mind. Plus the staff using disgusting language whilst in conversation with what I took to be a local sst at the bar. I didn't want to hear that!! The guy that greeted couldn't even be bothered. I will definitely NOT be staying again. Worst hotel I have stayed in. Breakfast layout was a joke. Dirty hot/tepid water burn, and a dirty bin not fit for purpose. And to top it off, there was a bug on the bar. The English breakfast was ok. 1 sausage 1 piece of bacon 1 very small egg 1 small hash brown boiled mushrooms 1 tinned tomato and a small portion of beans. Avoid at all costs. You will be disappointed.

Just popped in for a coffee and was welcomed with a happy member of staff with an actual smile. A few people around the bar who were obviously regulars. Nice to hear a light tone of conversation without the use of bad language. I felt very comfortable and would have stayed longer, had i not needed to catch a train. Coffee wasn't too bad either.

A large group of us stayed here whilst attending my son and daughter-in-law's wedding. Our room was lovely, very clean and quiet and the staff were friendly and extremely helpful. At breakfast, nothing was too much trouble and they did their best to accommodate all our requests. I cannot praise them enough.

Staff are friendly. Atmosphere is generally relaxed although it can get packed when there's football on. Breakfasts are good. Good location, about 10 minutes walk from the train station. There is parking at the front but it's short stay or permit holders only, however there is a pay and display car park approximately two minutes walk away. There is free WiFi, however I've never found it to be much good.

Bed was comfortable enough although the sheets hadn't been changed from the last guest judging from the smell, shower didn't look like it had ever been cleaned, glasses & coffee mugs were wet & dirty, heater didn't work, & couldn't find any staff come breakfast time & very minimal selection. A town of football thugs looking for a fight, if you,re a tourist & not a local football fan, Recommend you Do Not Stay Here.
