The wonderful thing about traveling in the UK is you can get good Indian food no matter how small or large the city is. Lochnagar Indian Brasserie checked most of the boxes for a nice (and affordable) dinner. The location itself feels a bit dated inside - they also have a rather odd and dated serving style with a lot of unnecessary plate decorations. Menu was broad and most items were affordable. They had a wide selection of drinks and service was quick, polite and attentive. Food was all good with flavors mostly spot on. It wasn’t the best Indian I’ve had, but it was perfect for the type of restaurant.
We enjoyed another excellent meal once again on our regular visit to Ballater.
With an upmarket feel, plus attentive and friendly staff, it's well worth considering if you want an Indian meal with style.
Can highly recommend this restaurant, and we are very much looking forward to our next visit there.
Special thank you to Sayeed....
Great Indian food suggested by our guide, Chris Roper from Ride in Peace Adventures. He said he loved this place! We booked in early and ao glad we did.
Had an enjoyable time and ate delicious food !

Went with a group of 15 and all course and all meals came out together and individually cooked. Not start main dessert at same time I might add.
The atmosphere was great, and we were all individually catered for.
Did seem a little expensive, but 3 pints of beer at £5.50 a pint obviously adds to the cost.
This place was often busy so reserve a table ahead of time! I found the portions a bit on the small side. Recommend the okra side, the curry duck, and their signature Indian regional spicy dish. Wish the samosas and pakora had come with green chutney, or anything at all to dip them in. Get white rice over the pilau, it has food coloring in it. Order ASAP and the food can take time to prepare. Large menu, so maybe take a look before you sit down and order food with your delicious tall glass of Kingfisher.
We come to Ballater every year but have never been to the brasserie before. We were recommended on many occasions and finally went this evening.
Oh my! It was fantastic. The service was amazing, popadoms and chutneys were swiftly delivered, followed by hot delicious starters and mains. The peshwari naan was probably the best I have ever had. We weren’t stuffed with food, just pleasantly replete.
We were offered a complimentary drink (but declined due to Scottish drink driving law) and had some orange and hand wipes with a wee chocolate.
Thanks so much to the staff for an amazing meal.
Top tip. You may need to book most evenings, it’s incredibly popular!
Brilliant food. Excellent value. We had heard good reviews and were not disappointed. We will definitely be back. The set meal for 2 was really good value and the lamb biriani which we had as an add on was also really tasty.
The only downside was when I tried the phone number on the website it was just disconnecting. Would just ring then immediately cur me off. Not a big deal for me as i just walked up to place our order but may have been a bit of a pain if you live further away.
What can I say. We got the karahi Hot and a South Indian garlic chilli. Weve been to over 30 Indian restaurants and this is far by the best 👌. Well done guys 5 Star on service food everything. Cant wait to come back 👍❤ curry's are phenomenal and staff super nice. Local or travel. Your missing out if you don't try here
Outstandingly good food and very reasonably priced for the quality. This has to be up there with some of the best Indian restaurant food I have ever had. Great service and friendly staff. Recommended!
We are in town visiting from Michigan in the US. The food here is outstanding! I ordered the butter chicken and my husband got hinduqushi achar they were soooo good! The butter chicken was full of coconut flavor and mild. The hinduqushi was medium, spicy and delicious. I recommend the simosa too!
