We had been asked to join our friends for an evening meal here at Alams Lounge. Although we have been many times before but as we have recently moved the opportunities have not been quite so easy to get to the Restaurant. However, seizing the opportunity we would like to say the service and food was excellent. We each had starters and mains and left feeling very full but content. We will make a concerted effort to return in the too distant future.
Never been before just noticed on Trip Advisor.
We had booked on line, the owner replied thanking for the booking and advising the Restaurant is not licensed so we need to take alcoholic drinks, not soft drinks as there is a non-alcoholic drinks menu, including non-alcoholic cocktails and Lassi. It's a bit out in the sticks but easy to find with sat nav.. We entered to a warm friendly welcome, seated at our table the waiter (sorry didn't catch his name) made sure we were alright for drinks, glasses and ice . Alam the owner came out for a chat it's quite obvious the restaurant the food and his customers are his passion. There is a wide and varied menu, the usual Indian selection but also specialities and Kashmiri dishes. As it was our first visit the waiter gave us complimentary poppadoms and pickle tray ... our starters a Lamb Seekh Kebab and a Fish Pakora the kebab was full of spicy flavour and a topping looking like herbs and garlic excellent, the Pakora was in a light crispy batter with a fresh salad garnish. Main courses were Chicken Tandoori Masala in a rich tomato sauce and a Chicken Tandoori Special, served on a sizzling platter ample pieces of tender chicken cooked to perfection served with a Bhuna sauce with extra garlic as requested, in fact they will prepare any dish you require using the ingredients on the menu they will order in any special meat or fish given 48 hours notice .. we had side dishes of garlic naan and Alam’s Special Rice .. make sure you are hungry .. the portions are large ... we were both unable to take advantage of the sweet menu, even though there is my favourite Syrup Sponge with a Golden Syrup swirl & warm Devon Custard ...
If you want a fantastic meal in friendly surroundings with the added bonus of taking your own wine etc ... Alam's Lounge is the place to go!
This place is by far the best Curry house in the area.....so happy that we have found it.
You can bring your own alcohol as well which is a bonus - More money left to spend on their fabulous food
Went before Christmas with 30 of our members. Couldn’t fault a single thing. Wonderful food, service and atmosphere. Thanks to Abbey and his lovely friendly team for a brilliant evening.
Absolutely brilliant place the food is great and the staff are lovely! Can’t fault it one bit! It’s become a regular of mine! Bring on the next visit in Feb! (Pictures are Mixed Kebab Starter & Mutton Korma) Five stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
As the titles suggests...
Today was our first trip and won't be our last.
Personable, attentive service with tasty food. The highlight was the Garlic naan. This can make or break this type of cuisine for me. This was light, fluffy with some nice crisp to it and lots of flavour.
Great food, great service again for our infrequent ‘cycling lads’ curry night. Will be back soon....
Went for meal with family, and once again we were not disappointed.
Despite what appeared to be a hectic night we were soon welcomed by Abbey who always makes a point of saying hello how are you and remembering our names.
As said restaurant was busy but we were soon shown to our table and didn’t have to wait too long for our order to be taken.
The food was as usual excellent.
Only downside was our fellow diners could not get a taxi home, however Abbey upon hearing this offered a lift with his delivery driver, not many establishments would go to this length to help its customers.
So a big thank you to Abbey and all the staff
Always a warm welcome
The food is fabulous, visited many times and always consistently great service
Food and service and value for money hard to beat.
In last visit we had 3 year old granddaughter with us so ordered chicken nuggets, which was an adults potion even though a child’s meal, but I think these are the best chicken nuggets you will ever taste. Made with beautiful chicken breast in tempura batter. If this is one of their simple dishes then judge the main menu by it and you’ll just know your in for a great meal no matter what your choice.
Food was good the what looked like the boss, was very intimidating and spoke to the staff very rude, over all I would come again but if the manager needs to speak the staff do it out of customer sight.
Yet another lovely welcome and meal at Alam's lounge. The food is mouth wateringly good and always at a high standard. Staff are great and very obliging from choosing how spicy you wanted your food to a doggy bag because we always order too much but don't like to waste any. They do lovely non-alcoholic drinks too should you forget to bring a bottle! Roll on our next visit!
What can I say.....the food and service was great!!!
Take your own booze so that keeps the bill to a minimum also.
If I was to be forced into saying a negative then the restaurant itself could do with a lick of paint and the chairs are a little tired hence the 4* rating. However, this took nothing away from a great night with great food.
I looked on trip advisor for a new curry house to go to and this did not disappoint. Staff were friendly and assertive from the moment we stepped in which made the whole experience even more fantastic. Food was fab and you could choose how spicy you wanted it. Staff made a massive effort with the children. You can take your own alcohol but the non-alcoholic drinks were awesome. Another great thing was that we were not rushed between courses so didn't feel cometely stuffed. Will be going back again soon.
Just been to Alams Lounge probably are 6th visit this place as got to be the best Indian restaurant in Barnsley by a country mile not just good food we were looked after by Rebekah who's got to be 1 of the friendly waterless we have ever met what a wonderful experience definitely be going back. Derek &dot.
excellent food, fish dishes are excellent, good atmosphere the best food in yorkshire, mutton barochi is superb
Had a meal here on Saturday to cheer us up after a Barnsley defeat at Oakwell. This used to be my local pub when it was the Hermit and I'd not been in 15 years. Really brilliant curry and service from extensive menu. Super friendly owner and cracking food. Had a Biriani off the specials Board. Will happily become a regular to celebrate both wins and console defeats.
We order from here and also eat in! The staff are lovely and can’t do enough to help and the food is always beautiful 😃 our favourite Indian in Barnsley hands down
Went for another visit, this time with grandson Sam. Everything was excellent even though it was the hottest August day ever. We had starters of lamb seekh kebab(2of us) and mutton tikka. Main courses were chicken tikka dhansak, chicken tikka Ceylon and lamb curry. We also had rice and roti. All excellent with good service from Rebecca. Marvelous!
Absolutely fantastic chicken jalfazi and tandoori chicken curry, lovely pilau rice and mushroom rice, all the staff were lovely and attentive, I would have given it 5 stars but I thought the popadoms were a bit overpriced at £1 each, it does say this on the menu but I mistakenly assumed it would be for 2 like when you order onion bhajis, having had 5 popadoms and a pickle tray between 2 people this added over £7.00 to our total bill, I would definitely go again and would definitely recommend the place to other people but would skip the popadoms and maybe have a different starter.
