Two features stick in my mind.
Food
Service
Both were exemplary- I talk about the food below, but the staff at The Kings Head, really deserve congratulations- always smiling, always welcoming and helpful, and often amusing. It was a delight staying there.
Absolutely brilliant, excellent food, great service and a nice convenient location. It's been a while since we have been somewhere this good, no really. In a sea of chain pubs offering cheap mediocre food this is a gem, go on treat yourself you won't regret it and we for sure will be back.
After a debauched Saturday afternoon on the Norfolk Broads, our stag group of weary, bloated thirtysomethings hauled ourselves into taxis to honour our dinner reservations at this quiet and refined countryside pub, where the giant, boucle dining chairs ensconce you and prearranged food choices are hurriedly delivered to your table.
The staff were warm and good-humoured in the face of their understandable bemusement at our low energy, as well as many of my friends’ inability to finish their hearty meat dishes. I, meanwhile, delighted in the beautifully presented salt-baked celeriac, accompanied by tasty celery and delicious shimeji mushrooms, and artfully sprinkled with pieces of hazelnut and fenugreek – all proudly sourced within 48.5 miles of the premises.
In a weekend of chaos, the Kings Head gifted me a treasured interlude of expertly executed gastronomic joy. If I’m ever back in the area, there’s only one place I’m heading for dinner.
