Fancied a nice pub meal in an old pub and this place isn't disappointing! Amazing charectar and rich with history across the walls. Lots of original features. Very friendly staff who were welcoming and happy. Table service was fantastic with everything thought about. The food was great especially considering the price. I'm used to higher priced places however I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food and presentation. Highly recommend this place its a gem within the new forest.
Whilst I would not say this is fine dining I would say this is a great place to come for a hearty pub lunch. 2 of us had steak and kidney pie and 2 had roast beef. All 4 of us loved what we had and left very happy. Nice pub, friendly atmosphere and we will definitely be back.
Very pleasant New Forest pub. Log fires, low beams and lots of rural life and New Forest history on display in the pub. Visited on a Friday evening for a meal. Busy with very friendly mostly local clientele. Quick service and great food. Thoroughly enjoyable.
We just had a fabulous lunch! We turned up without booking and very lucky to get a table, as they were very busy! The choice of food was excellent, as was the quality and presentation of food. Traditional home made cooking. Friendly and very efficient service. Would highly recommend and will definitely be returning! I’ve attached photos of our delicious starters!
We called in for lunch, which was excellent! The roasts are to be recommended and the beers are spot-on! Having had a relaxing lunch The Dinosaurs live group played in the large garden and we finished up at the Turfcutters until it was dark! It was a brilliant day spent at a well above average pub that has been sensibly laid out to give customers the best outdoor experience possible.
Walked to here today following a circular walk from Hatchet pond carpark.This pub was a very welcome break from a long enjoyable walk. Nice to see a proper pub with such interesting history on the walls and lots of interesting things to look at. Service was great and the food was very good. Had fish and chips very tasty. Would definitely recommend a stop here as its in a small but lovely village.
We chose this pub for our Sunday roast as it had one of the top reviews , we couldn't fault the meal at all, traditional Sunday roast is what we all wanted and that is exactly what we got... the gravy was amazing, we had a mixed meat roast which we all agreed would definitely recommend.
The pub itself was busy so obviously popular , nice play area for children.
Inside the pub although all open up and free flowing it was lots of small rooms as if it was someone's home. Cosy, would visit again if in that area as we all felt comfortable.
Nice little pub. Food good. Thatchers cider was not good tho as flavour did not come thru so only had base cider which wasn't good but first time I had had the blood orange one on draft. Had another place and it was perfect. Young staff didn't seem to know it wasn't it right. Would go back though.
Lovely country pub, with a large garden and a good selection of beers. The food was very good and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
We stayed the night in our motorhome (in the carpark), and had a peaceful nights sleep even the donkeys don't wake us 😁.
We went to eat there over the weekend as we were staying close by. The menu is not vast but what they have, is cooked and presented fabulously.
I had scampi and chunky chips one night and then smoked salmon and prawn salad with new potatoes the next. It was delicious
