Checked out Tartan Tea House for Afternoon Tea today and couldn't recommend it enough. Ordered the Victorian tea and received two types of finger sandwiches (cucumber cream cheese and egg salad), as well as a scone with jam and clotted cream and three mini desserts (Battenberg cake, shortbread cookie and chocolate cupcake), and, of course, a pot of tea. Everything was fresh and tasted delicious, and was very filling. The owner/server is knowledgeable, so kind and very accommodating (she swapped out sandwiches that were not a preference for some to give them only what they preferred and when a group walked in claiming to have a reservation that staff were unaware of, they stayed very positive and got straight to the task of putting together a beautiful setting for them). The teacups are gorgeous, the tartan theme is adorable and the whole place is beautiful, cosy and quaint. Cups and utensils were very clean and polished. There are even hats you can borrow to wear for fun or for fancy pictures. There are limited parking spaces, however, there is overflow parking a few steps away. We already have plans to return. Highly recommend.

Amazingly delicious tea and lovely people!
This tea house was a wonderful surprise. There is a large menu of excellent teas, along with the most delicious tea cakes, shortbread, sandwiches, scones with home-made clotted cream and more, I've ever had -- and I've been to many in the UK and in North America.
The welcoming hostess is knowledgeable on all the teas on offer, and the chef! oh my, it's impossible to leave without secretly planning to return for her dishes untried as yet, as well as repeats.
The teas do not look as though you'll be loosening your belt before too long, and yet it is a sad fact that you'll very likely find it necessary.
On fine days there's a great view of the Bedford Basin, and ladies, there are a number of hats available for you to wear if you fancy it will enhance your tea experience.
This establishment is not large, so please call for reservations.

I absolutely loved this place and the lovely owner Amal!!! We went there as a group for afternoon tea, and had the best view of Bedford Basin along with delicious pastries , desserts and flavorful teas serves in Fine China porcelains. This place is the ONLY place in Halifax that has High Tea tradition. Amal and her husband definetely created an amazing one of a kind atmosphere and I definetely recommend everyone to go ans try it out. They also have gorgeous hats to put on and to take pictures. Can’t wait to go again :)

Took my mother for mothers day and absolutely loved it. What a gem this place is! The server recommended teas and and I wanted to try something new. They said if I didn't like it I could pick another. I got the royal tartan and it was a ton of food but they provide a box you can take the extra home. They also have an assortment of hats you can try on for pictures. Most people were dressed up and wearing hats or facinators but I just had on jeans and a dress shirt and that was fine too. It's a small place and we barely got a reservation so I would call ahead. We loved it and I'll definitely go again.

A delightful way to spend an afternoon in Halifax at this charming tea house which offers extremely high quality afternoon tea with some superb tea blends available, the food is so fresh and is absolutely delicious. My personal favorites being the quiche and sausage rolls although the cucumber and smoked salmon mini sandwiches are also seriously en pointe. I would highly recommend trying a full tea (I think it’s called the Royal experience?) so you get to try all the wonderful food items on offer. The staff are very knowledgeable and know their stuff. Just a perfect afternoon on every level.
