Reviews of Zen

I booked a dinner reservation for 5pm. We were seated and served quickly. I don't know the names of the staff but the male waiter had served us previously and he has a great way with customers. We ordered some oysters and instead of 3 which is the usual serving he gave us an extra one so it would be equal. The soy sauce is fabulous, it is superior to any others I have tasted and the sashimi platter was a work of art. it was expensive as we both had starters, sushi and dessert as well as 1 drink each but it was a great experience for my daughters 18th birthday. zen is her favourite restaurant of all.

Another birthday celebration dinner here, over all this place is excellent. I simply love it. It's always busy, so book in advance . The food is fantastic, flavoursome and well presented. The staff are good but very busy. It's also a bit loud. Lots of people celebrating so be prepared for a bit of noise. But don't let that put you off. Go visit, you won't be disappointed.

The food was amazing but we did have to spend a fair while before we were seated. We had a reservation but spent about 20 mins at the bar before we were sat. I appreciate how the seating must be staggered to accommodate the kitchen bit it was a bit long for my liking. The food however was sublime. I ordered the mango and duck and it was fantastic. Very enjoyable and id easily come here again In future

Visited midweek with the family. Restaurant was recommended by a website. A wide selection of drinks at the bar my son had a mocktail and my wife had a cocktail.which they both enjoyed. A good range of food choices on the menu. When I opted for a choice from the menu that didn't say it had nuts the waiter checked to see and kitchen advised the sauce had nuts which was great. We did get one of our main courses delivered to the table whilst we were still having starters but it was returned with no issues. I ordered surf and turf which was a half lobster with steak and crab claw. It was very nice with the Udon noodles. Atmosphere was good with background music at a level where it could be heard but you could still have a conversation. Would recommend a visit if you are in Belfast.

Great experience!!! The sushi was incredibly fresh and delicious. The pickled ginger was some of the best I’ve had, very zingy. The soy sauce is some of the best I’ve ever tasted. I wouldn’t personally recommend the orange duck, it’s covered in a very sweet orange sauce which overpowered the savoury duck. We didn’t finish this. I’ve seen Zen do good spring rolls, however when I had them they ended up in a puddle of their own oil. The salt and chilli chips are delicious, the sweet chilli sauce is unique (not the overly sweet bottle stuff), and the duck pancakes are amazing. I had a great smoothie, the customisation is great (you choose up to 3 ingredients from a fairly expansive list). There is an automatic 10% service charge applied to all tables. The staff are very nice and the service is phenomenal. They give you warm wet towels to clean your hands as you sit. The toilet was a bit mad to get to but was well sign posted. They were very clean, with Japanese electric bidets. Dishes I would recommend: * Tuna tartare * Fresh oysters * Duck samosas * Duck pancakes * Prawn toast * Chilli squid * Sushi platter * Honey peppered shredded chicken * Salt & chilli chips

This place could be one of the best japanese resto in the island. Large space, good ambience, warm staff and great food. Reasonably priced and well seasoned food. Great selection of food and drinks, from sushi's to curries to cocktails and mocktails. A nice place to dine for dates and family. Will come back soon.

Really great food and amazing look and feel. I was lucky enough to be taken here and wow what a great night. Even though I did t park take in the cocktails they looked amazing and the list was strong. I had ribs to start and then For the main I had chicken in a honey pepper sauce, which was fantastic. I tried some of the other dishes on the table and they where equally as great. Staff where good, speedy, a polite. Food was delivered quickly and everything was hot. Shame the desert menu was more British than orient but I will definitely go again when next in Belfast.

Zen has to be the best spot in Belfast if you are looking for pan Asian cuisine. The food is always fantastic. Service friendly and attentive, without being intrusive. Highly recommended booking a table in advance as this is a popular restaurant! It's worth also checking out sister restaurants, House of Zen & The Dumpling Library

Best New Year's Eve Dinner Party in the city! Food delishious, service swift & polite, decor & atmosphere sweet, DJ & cabaret were just perfect! Brilliant all around! Special shout out to the owner who was mingling with guests, chatting and making sure everyone has a great time. Can't recommend enough!

Well, I am a big fan of Asian food, so I came with some big expectations - I am a bit disappointed with curry I ordered - lack of taste, but it looked nice. As a starter I had Japanese dumplings, which tasted as polish with cabbage - it was just all right. The service is nice, a bit busy, so u need to wait to order more drinks. I think I will give them another chance.

Fantastic ambience and good food!<br/><br/>The seating arrangements and the ambience of Zen is fantastic. It has those  small Japanese artifacts on the walls and even 2 zashiki (traditional Japanese low seating arrangement). There was a set menu option to choose from, which included one started and a main with a drink for around £17.<br/><br/>I ordered the sushi and maki rolll platter in starter which was very good. Plating was great too - served on a wooden plate. For main I chose the duck roast in Orange sauce - this was too sweet for my taste. I felt that the sweetness of the orange over powered the whole dish. A little bit of tangy and chilli would have been better!<br/><br/>All in all a very nice experiance.

The food menu here is fantastic - I could barely chose what to order! There are 2 set menus which offer a great overview of the food on offer. We got menu A which had 4 courses for only £29.95pp and was stunning, the duck salad starter was delicious and the coconut ice cream finished the meal off perfectly. The cocktail menu was also great and very reasonable for Belfast city centre. We're already planning our next visit!
