This is a real gem on the NC500 route, if you're travelling along you must stop by! It's very homely with tasty food and even an excellent selection of beers and spirits. We popped in for a few pints and a wee dram, the staff were very friendly and the lady in that evening (I forgot her name sadly!) Provided us with some excellent recommendations for our travels which we did visit and certainly worth it! It was Halloween the evening we were in and it was lovely to see some many local children able to pop in for Halloween treats! We had a slice of the bakewell tart for breakfast the following day - we wish we had time to pop I'm for breakfast but it just means we have to come back!

Although the exterior is nothing to write home about. Don’t be fooled… The food was fresh and really great! The treats looked amazing. Sadly did not have any. But the people next to us were really enjoy theirs. We had amazing homemade soup and sandwiches that were excellent. You could taste the love. They obviously take pride in their product and service. The prices were very good. The inside ambiance however was through the roof. It felt and looked warm and cozy. But the best part was the staff. Very friendly and efficient. I may change my travel plans just so we can get to their “store” on the way back. Good luck.

Picture the scene; it’s been a long day battling the wind and the rain - you stumble into the store to be greeted with a delicious array of cakes and bakes in front of you. Your eyes wander across the wooden cabin walls decorated with everything from elephant artworks to wooden stags and coffee flags and you take a seat on a plush armchair, bench or dining chair. The floor to ceiling shelves offer ponchos and greeting cards as well as crockery and road signs. You know you’re in for a treat and feel instantly comfortable. Speedy friendly service sees you faced with golden battered fish and a mountain of fries sufficient to feed a family of four. Those monitoring their cholesterol should sit this one out - it’s a fried feast. 10/10 recommend setting your alarm for 5pm and travelling for as long as it takes to reach The Store for dinner. Absolute gem.

Dropped in for a coffee the day before, so after a very long walk we popped in around 1530 and got some drinks and some soup. The place was quirky but welcoming and our server was very pleasant. The cider was on draught which was surprising but most appreciated and the tomato soup, now I mean this, was absolutely fabulous. Rustic, full of tomatoes and with a cheeky kick at the end of each spoonful. Just what we needed after a long day out. The establishment seemed to be regularly frequented by both tourists and locals, probably after the soup!

Hidden gem this one. When we came in, we were greeted by a table full of freshly made pies and sweets. (even some gluten free ones!) The staaf is just lovely, kind from the inside out. My girlfriend eats gluten free, and even though I ordered a burger with fries, they made an extra plate of gluten free fries just in case she also wanted a bite! So many fries! 😁 The food was great, especially the cranberry, brie, bacon toastie my gf had. My burger was also very tasty. Atmosphere was warm and kind. Wood fire oven was burning when we came in, and in mid October it was very nice and warm, so wear some layers! This place has a 4.8 on Google maps after several hundred reviews and that doesn't happen a lot. If you're doing the nc500, this is definitely worth a stop.

Lovely little cafe, stopped for breakfast on the nc500 route. Amazing food, fast service and big servings for the price. Lovely staff. Would definitely recommend.

Great little quirky place in the middle of not really anywhere. We were a little late showing up on a Saturday night but they couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating in getting us fed. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was simple but delicious and seemed fresh and freshly prepared. And the restaurant itself (an old converted shop) was quirky and fun with random stuff (stylishly) placed all over. Price point was about right.

Found this gem while driving along the coast. Stopped for lunch, however ended up staying for their dinner menu. The food was amazing, we had the steak and lobster, which was shared between two of us. Portions are very generous for the price, and the lobster was clearly very fresh too. Options to sit inside their bistro which is decorated with a bunch of random bits and bobs, some of which is for sale. A few outdoor tables were available too .

We called in for lunch whilst touring the area, we were greeted by the very helpful Julie, who directed us to a table beside the wood-burning stove, very welcome on a wet and cold day. I had the seafood platter, and my partner had a toasty, the food was outstanding, and delivered to the table promptly, lovely coffee and hot chocolate. We also bought some cake and sausage rolls for our tea, if you're in the area this lovely welcoming little gem is definitely worth a visit.

One of the best little cafes in the country. Not only is Bettyhill a wonderful little community with beautiful people, but this cafe is a gem. We arrived just after service finished & they went out their way to make food for us anyway. We had a smashing veggie mushroom soup, cake and cheese sandwich. We came back the next day for grilled panini a (they did not disappoint!) with chips & a toasted cheese sarnie for bubba. The coleslaw is to die for! Then we came back the next morning (!) for take away coffee & a flapjack (gorgeous with cinnamon!). Toys for kids to play, books, local wares for sale, stunning cake display, booze for sale and great atmosphere. We’ll be back!
