Visited this restaurant last night for the first time with my husband. A very warm welcome from Eddie, one of the two brothers who own the restaurant. We were seated and given the menus. On reading through the menus we were asked if we’d like a drink, we said we’d like some red wine and Eddie recommended a very nice Rioja which we thoroughly enjoyed and got through 2 bottles. Whilst reading through the menus we ate some green olives. To start with we opted for piquillo peppers stuffed with black pudding in a spicy tomato salsa and spicy prawns in a lobster bisque sauce, Eddie recommended some bread which was a good idea as we were able to mop up the sauce with the warm crusty bread. For mains we chose ox cheek and lamb meatballs which were cooked to perfection and piping hot, a side of grilled veg each made for a fabulous dinner. We were too full for dessert but enjoyed coffee and brandy, Cardinal Mendoza. Alfonso, chef, came and chatted with us which was a very nice touch. The restaurant wasn’t very busy, sometimes it is but last night fairly quiet which was nice as it was a quiet peaceful evening with succulent food and great friendly service. We shall definitely return. Thank you Eddie and Alfonso

While some of the dishes were quite tasty, presentation is very rustic. The interior is a bit dated and tables are quite close to make private conversation difficult.. On a positive note the service was very upbeat. If the kitchen could enhance the presentation of each dish a little I think the restaurant would benefit significantly. Good parking in front. Overall value good.

Visited when here to take university daughter out for a meal. Really lovely . Family run , easy reach of the university by taxi but parking outside if driving. Warm welcome and excellent food . We had artichoke , fish cakes , goats cheese and roasted veg, poached cod in tomato sauce and forced a sweet tart down after . Highly recommend . It’s as far from a chain as you can get . Thankyou

We came here at the end of January for my Dad's birthday and both the food and the service were fantastic! There is a great range of dishes all of which are executed to perfection! I would highly recommend a visit!

Took my boyfriend for his birthday. Fantastic food and service. Boyfriend had the ox cheeks and he said they were amazing and the portions were huge. I had fish and I am a very fussy fish eater, but it was cooked perfectly. Good wine, good food, good service. Will definitely go back and would recommend. I find the food in nearby restaurants / pubs very average and not great quality so I'm glad we found this little gem for the future.

Group Christmas meal for 10. Really good value compared to normal menu, £28 for 3 courses and there was a good choice of dishes. Food quality was excellent, fantastic flavours. Service and ambience good. 10% service charge added, I'm not a fan of that. I was the only one who had ox cheeks and they were lovely. All the hot food was hot.

A group of ten of us went to Don Diego’s for a Christmas meal together. We had a really great evening thanks to the hosting/waiting by Eddie and the cooking of Alfonso. Of course the highlight was the food, Spanish-English fusion, delicious and so well presented. But also Eddie made it easy to organise by explaining clearly arrangements for paying the bill ( no tiresome individual payments at the end) and checking when we were ready for each course - so we were able to take our time and enjoy the whole evening in a relaxed manner. One of the best meals out that we have had as a group - genuinely good food and superb cooking.

We really enjoyed our first visit. The menu is very tempting, making it hard to choose! We shared fish cakes and scallops to start which were both delicious. I really enjoyed the chicken with mojo sauce and my boyfriend had the pork tenderloin which he said was delicious. The almond tart for pudding was the perfect end to a great evening. We highly recommend the white rioja! A must visit local restaurant with good service. You won’t be disappointed.

Visited on Friday during a weekend in Birmingham and so worth venturing a couple of mikes out of the city for a fabulous meal. Starters of black pudding, scallops with pea purée were delicious. Large mains of cod loin, fabulously cooked Ox cheeks - so tender, and chicken with a spicy tomato sauce- all so perfectly cooked. Wonderful Spanish wine and coffee with brandy. The brothers whose business it is blend a friendly atmosphere, with attentive service and excellent food and should be fully booked every night. A gem of a restaurant- please make the effort to visit- you certainly won’t be disappointed.

Very warm welcome. Very good service and good food, which is simple but delicious. Menu isn't big but more tastier.

Friday night visit which should have seen the place fully booked based on the quality of the service and food. The fish cakes and lamb cannelloni were delicious and the ox cheek main went down a treat. I am not a pudding person but the sticky toffee pudding was the best I have eaten in ages. To focus on Spanish wines maintained the authenticity of the meal rather than pages of wines from all over the world. It is small and friendly but not pretentious and the two man operation made it feel welcoming. Will definitely visit again.

I’d seen the great reviews of Don Diego and wanted to try it for a while and it really did not disappoint. We eat out quite a bit and it was by far the best meal I’d had all year. The restaurant is owned by two brothers who were unbelievably welcoming, engaging and extremely helpful. The menu is fairly small compared to many on the high street (not that this is a bad thing!) but still provides great variety and it truly was authentic Spanish food. Upon arrival Eddy was helpful in determining wine choice and various food options. All food ordered was outstanding. Once finished and the restaurant was quieter, Eddy joined us for a chat and gave us complimentary drinks and then his brother came out from the kitchen and had a good chat too. They were both really very lovely. We’ll definitely be back!

Went here last night for dinner, what a great local restaurant. Food was amazing, the best octopus I have eaten outside if spain... the food here is really authentic spanish and the wine was great too. The restaurant is ran by two brothers and the chef came out at the end of evening to say hello which we thought was a nice touch. Will definitely be back!

Wonderful choice of well presented delicious plates. Perfect for friends to share. Each the perfect size so if there is something you do not like you can leave that to your friends and you hog the plate you do like.
