We took advantage of Marmalade's pre-opening 50% off trial deal as we needed to have dinner before seeing a show at the REP.

This new venue has been fitted out very quickly on the ground floor of the theatre, looking out on Centenary Square, but it feels like it's been there for ages. Cosy interior, wooden panelling and floors and big heavy curtains are all lit by loads of oversized lamps and those fancy bulbs that everywhere seems to have these days! Loads of seating options too, from booths, to benches and long group tables to smaller tables for two.

The pre-show menu is a great mix of twists on traditional dishes. The ham-hock has brie in it for example, and was delicious and salty with a creamy texture from the cheese. The desert came with a VERY generous portion of chocolate sauce and the chicken main course was cooked and flavoured to perfection.

We didn't get to try the cocktails on this occasion, but the range looked really interesting and judging by the Bitters'n'Twisted team's track record, you wouldn't be disappointed.

In all, the whole experience was very smooth and the timing of the dishes fitted perfectly between arriving after work, and having to get into the theatre for the show. It was efficient and friendly without feeling rushed at any point.

It's awesome to have a new place to eat which isn't a big chain in the Broad St/Brindleyplace area of town too. Great work.

Wifi (free) and cloakroom facilities (£1 per item, not outside show times) are available via The REP.

Great food. Friendly, helpful staff. I went just before a show, convenient place to eat as it's in the REP theatre.

Another place for lunch at the library of Birmingham. We saw a cafe at the entrance of the library but we wanted to have proper lunch and walked a little and found this good restaurant. We went for lunch and ordered open sandwich and a wrap. It was very nice. You can directly go from either theatre and the library.

The drinks menu is great, especially if you go during discounted hours! The food menu is less exciting personally, but there are some good deals, and may suit other tastes. The decor is cute, and the venue itself is good, if a little weird to adjust to being inside a theatre foyer!

Nice little bar, perfect for a drink before seeing a play in the Rep theatre or a concert in the symphony hall. Food is decent, perhaps a little on the expensive side but that's probably to be expected from somewhere directly attached to the theatre. Pleasant atmosphere and decor inside, with outdoor seating overlooking the fountains on Centenary Square, ideally located for afternoon sun.

I was seated quickly. The decor is questionable but the place is warm and cosy which is all you need for a cold day like this. I ordered the fish and chips which came out quickly staff are polite. I must say this it was the BEST FISH & CHIPS I've had not just in Birmingham but ever. If you love a good hearty portion of fish and chips I suggest you get down here with the family you won't be disappointed

This is a nice restaurant in the Repertory Theatre and good for light meals and drinks before theatre or after work with friends. I have been several times with friends and it has always been easy to get a table inside or outside. The food is quite good and their is a good range of cocktails.

Fantastic cocktails. We had a lovely lunch, though I wanted lettuce not tomato in my toasted sandwich they changed it quickly. The young lady behind the bar had great hair too!

Wonderful, attentive staff surprised me at this very economical, but tasty dining / drinking venue. Cannot wait for the Centenary Square renovations to be complete so that their outdoor seating can resume (hopefully whilst there's some sunshine left)

We had a very tasty lunch last Saturday ..my husband had an excellent lasagne and I had a pumpkin salad. Our Portuguese wine was also beautifully smooth..we will be coming again.

Fantastic cocktail and a slushie for my friends. Lunch was out quickly and was delicious. My only gripe is that there is only one umbrella to keep people out of the sun. But it's lovely to watch people go by across the square.
