Formosa Chinese Restaurant

Formosa came highly recommended by a friend and I went in with high expectations. I had the Formosa sizzling beef which I thought was okay. My wife had the sweet and sour chicken which she felt was average at best. We each had an egg roll which we felt was also very average or maybe less. Additionally, the wait staff was borderline rude. The price of the entrees was okay, I have no complaints about that. I'm not saying that Formosa was bad, it was just not what I was expecting. It was average at best. Im still looking for one good Chinese restaurant in the Birmingham area.

I love Formosa, I have been going to eat with my family since I was a kid, I am now a grown adult. They have been closed since last year, please bring back our go to family dinner restaurant! They are very clean, friendly and the food is always fresh and delicious. Truly the best Chinese in the city!

Been going there for years. I have moved so don’t get to go now as much. Service is always excellent. Prices are reasonable & Portions are huge. I prefer dishes in a Chinese white sauce & there’s is outstanding. To spice it up they bring me Chinese red chili paste. Probably the Best Hot & Sour Soup in B’HAM. ( Mr Lin’s in Helena may have a slight edge ) Highly Recommend !

Exceptional experience. Came here with the team for a business meeting. All orders came out quickly and correctly. Place is clean with relaxed lunch atmosphere. Prices are reasonable. Nyoman is the best waiter I've ever had. Never had to ask for a refill or to have empty plates taken. He was on top of everything from the moment we sat down. Look forward to coming back again soon.

For years Formosa has been our favorite chinese cuisine restaurant. The food is ALWAYS excellent and the service has never been less than outstanding. We have been dining here for over 20 years. In fact, my husband proposed to me at Formosa on a birthday dinner date many years ago. Oh - and their hot and sour soup is the best in town!

Timeless, exquisite Chinese food. Formosa is a hidden gem in Hoover, just in front of the Dollar Theatre off Lorna Road. Their menu is expansive, with something for every taste. Outstanding, friendly courteous service and good portion sizes complete the experience of dining at this family-owned, consistently outstanding restaurant. The flavors are always a perfect blend and it is a delight to have such a great Chinese table service (though take out is just as great, too!) in the Hoover area. No buffets here—just excellent food at reasonable prices. We’ve been customers for more than 25 years and it is a delight to see that this vibrant restaurant is open again with the same family attending to its success.

Beautiful place. Elegant. Formal table setting with linen and flowers. Food was hit and wonderful from the soup through the dessert then almonds. Orders from the menu came quickly and we're piping hot. Eggroll was flaky and flavorful. Meats in my entrée were tender and spicy. Rice was great too. Service was so fast. The bill for two was very reasonable. With tip we still had great meal at a good price. Great place to entertain a client. The charm is familiar.
