The fish and chips are always excellent when I've had a takeaway from here. Fish cooked usually to order and portion is generous. Chips I will usually end up sharing on a large, as again, it's usually generous. Currently only taking cash at the counter.
The portion size of chips used to be more generous, with chunkier cuts, and were fried fresh before being placed in the box. However, now they are mostly thin-dry and because of this changes they arrive half cold. Please consider going back to the original Chris Fish and Chips style.

This fish & chips shop is the best, I’ve never had fresh cod fresh chips anywhere else. But honestly this place is wonderful. I recommend everyone to go. Perfect.
Best in Brentwood in my opinion. I normally have the medium cod and it is good quality and more of a large size compared with everywhere else. Chips are a generous portion also. I really like the curry sauce, proper Chinese takeaway style. Happy to recommend Chris' to anyone.

I have been using Chris's for years and have never had a bad meal.
Tonight I had large cod and shared a large portion of chips with my Mrs who had a regular cod.
Both bits of fish were enormous and absolutely delicious, pure white flakey fresh tasting cod in a light crispy batter.
The chips were light and fluffy and equally delicious. It was not at all greasy just perfect fish and chips.
The staff are always pleasant and polite. Excellent experience. Well done.

Nice and friendly service by one of the guys. The younger guy I first got served by was a bit moody.
First time I've been there and they recommended the ribs. The sauce was delicious and very generous. The rib meat was tasty and moist. Only thing I would say is if they allowed it to tenderise further it would have been perfect. A little bit chewy, but I'm very fussy.
Chips were decent and I would definitely go back.
Love the Jack Daniels ribs in here and have been coming here for years. Now I live away from Essex I always try to come here when visiting family. Only downfall being it’s opening hours. Shuts very early and means we have to go elsewhere which is never as good.
Never had a bad meal from Chris' and tonight was worth a mention. I had the cod bites and they were perfect. I do not understand the negative reviews on here unless they are from owners of other local chippies. All the reviews on the local FB pages have been positive. The only negatives have been when Deliveroo have been used. When I used Deliveroo at Chris' they did not even collect my order and when I called the staff said it was still on the counter. Not Chris' fault but I will always use Chris' own delivery service now (and it is cheaper) :)
We don't come from brentwood but had to pop over and decided on the way to google fish & chips.
After reading the reviews, we were only interested in the quality of the food and not disputes between 3rd parties/delivery
Ordered at the resturant door, super fast, pleasant service BUT the food was exceptional. Cod was moist, batter was perfect; crispy NOT soggy! Sausage in batter was really nice and chips were just right. Will happily drive the 24 minutes out of our way again just to sit in our car and eat their food again.

Absolutely amazing food there! Definitely should try the Jack Daniel's burger if you've never been!! One time we ordered from here and they were very busy, and phoned me to say they may be delayed and will let me know when they were on their way to deliver. The service and the staff is a 10/10. This is the only place we come to for a good fish and chippy!
I've had fish and chips all over the place for close to 50 years. This is the best I've had in a long time. The haddock was perfectly cooked with not too much batter and was a good portion. A large chips did two of us and were beautifully cooked, soft and fluffy on the inside, crispy on the outside. Really good and highly recommended.
Ordered on deliveroo and must say it was one of the best fish and chips we ever had. Main thing fish and chips were cooked in a fresh oil. Will definitely order again. Well done Chris' fish and chips!!!

Just seen a handful of bad reviews(really)so would like to add to my review, of a year ago, below.
Always fantastic quality, fresh and hot plus great customer service from Chris and his staff.
If you order via Uber they add to the price so order direct ...yes sometimes it is hard to get through because they are always busy but that tells its own story.
I am 70 and always have a home delivery which is almost always on time.
You have tried the rest now go to the best(and no I am not related to the owner just a very satisfied customer

If Carling did fish and chip shops they still could not match this one.
Generous portions well cooked and reasonably prices.
Fish and chips are top notch but the ribs are in another league.
We have ours delivered always on time and always piping hot.
Do not go anywhere else!
