Just Brilliant. This quirky little place had been on my coffee house hit-list since I arrived in Bristol 5 or so months ago. I'd heard that the strong focus on specialty/artisan coffee had moved on, but it still had my interest so when the opportunity came up to drop in and meet the new team there, I didn't hesitate. And how pleased am I that I did? Extract coffee, DE.Licious homemade cakes served on pretty vintage china, antipasti sharing platters, homemade soups and chilled out choons, And a hair salon! I believe a place is only as good the people who make it happen and Katie, Mandy and Isobel who run it are awesome people. In fact, I loved it so much that I somehow managed to convince them to hire me as a general assistant.for their new Thurs thru Sat evening opening hours, when the fresh flowers in vases get swapped for candles in bottles, and the place takes on the feel of a continental cafebar. Where else in Bristol could you relax to chilled out tunes over a great cup of coffee, a glass of prosecco and light bites at 9 o'clock at night? Like I said, just brilliant.

There is something really special going on in a small block in the centre of Bristol formed by Small and Broad Streets. Leading the way is Wild At Heart, a Coffee Shop that is also a Vintage Clothes shop, a hairdressers and a tattoo parlour. Fortunately, the coffee shop is right at the front and such is its excellence, I really didn’t have to venture any further. I could wow you with descriptions of the amazing space, the comfortable seating and the ideal surroundings for drinking coffee, but that would be to overlook the coffee itself. Kit, the man behind the coffee part of Wild at Heart, is as passionate about his coffee as anyone I know. He has the sort of set up, albeit on a smaller scale, that would make Brew Lab in Edinburgh envious. Like them he offers the usual range of espresso-based drinks, but has also gone to great lengths to select just the right beans for his Aeropress and Clover offerings. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, don’t worry. All you really need to know is that Wild At Heart is a great place to drink great coffee.
