The Gate At Bournheath

Very nice little gastro pub, bit of a family favourite. On my first visit I had the nicest steak I'd ever had, second time round it wasn't quite so good, unsure if there was a change in chef or quality of the meat, but I'm not here to judge a whole place on a single "acceptable" experience and will continue to return here and try lots of different things from the menu! 😊

Arrived and managed to get table for 2 without booking. Made the order at the bar. Was successfully upsold cheese on my garlic bread and was happy to have that as it made the garlic bread. I had the tex mex which was cooked perfectly and for a big eater i didnt leave feeling hungry which inwas thankful for. Wife had the chicken dish which we liked in particular the sauce. Checkback performed on meal, steak knife brought with food and additional condiments when requested Will be back again. Thanks!

I really wanted to love this place, the food was really good and a decent price too. The one gripe was the service, it certainly didn't come with a smile, it actually felt like we were hassling them when asking for a drink because the response never felt warming. No one checked on our food after it was brought out, we were wanting sauces but no one asked us about it so ended up without. When we were told they needed the table back, again the approach felt too serious and sudden, there was no friendliness about the service. It could have been a 3/5 but there was a lot to like about it and I'm hoping we caught the waiter/waitress on an off-day.
