The Anchor Inn

Small part of us booked in for lunch. Really REALLY good, but a little on the expensive side. Friday lunchtime the place was empty, whereas the pub a few doors down was completely full. It can't have been the quality of food, or the choice of ales, so i can only think it was the price. Shame really, it was a bit of a hidden gem.

Let's be honest! I'm Spanish and I was on holiday when I went to The Anchor Inn so I am not qualified to compare pubs in England. But I must say that I think this is no ordinary pub...food was MUCH BETTER than the other 4 pubs I visited in my holidays. Fish (we tried salmon and bass) and seafood (we tried prawns and scallops) was delicious, the Bailey's and vanilla home made creme brulée was a delight. Service was kind, fast and friendly. I absolutely recommend it, if you are a foreigner visiting England and you have some kind of prejudice against pubs' food, give this place a try: you'll change your mind!

GREAT food! An amazing variety of seafood dishes, but a variety of meat and meat free dishes also available. Very child friendly, with lovely, friendly, helpful staff. Fair pricing is an added bonus - as is the selection of local beers available. Portion sizes are incredible too. Sadly we were only able to visit once during our stay in the area - it's almost worth the 200+ mile journey from our home to Burton Branstock just to eat there again. I strongly suggest that if you are in the area, you make the Anchor a priority destination - you will not be disappointed!

Fantastic customer service. Staff were attentive, knowlegable & polite. We opted for the sharring sea food platter - was beautifully cooked but I think more seafood is needed for your money. It was an ample portion for 2 but I just would have liked to see a few more scallops and squid. On the whole a wonderful dinning experience.
