I've been here a few times, but just for beer. Its always busy, and the staff always look run off their feet; however, they still manage to provide great service. Tonight I had the steak and ale pie. Probably the best meal I have had in a long time. I've never tasted Hispi cabbage, but now I know how amazing it is. The whole meal was a delight and the staff was very friendly and professional. 11 out of 10. Well done 👏

Wow, booked a table so we could eat before popping to the theatre, fantastic greeting when we walked to the bar. Escorted to our immaculate table and asked what drinks we would like. Drinks came, and food order taken. I had steak and ale pie, the boss had chicken Kiev. Super tasty all over. Pie was to die for, and the Kiev was so tender. I would give the whole team 11 out of 10.

A classic Greene King pub with lovely decor and charm. Very quiet for a Sunday evening dinner service and staff were very attentive. Food and drinks were served quickly and decently priced.

Traditional style pub with nice decor. Bar served a selection you’d expect with this chain. Rooms are spacious and clean. Car park accessed to the rear is very tight off a one way street. Lots of great locations within walking distance.

Beautiful pub and we enjoyed the pub garden. We had food here and it was nice. My chicken Kiev was over cooked but the other three people had lovely meal. Portion sizes could have been bigger such as the chips. We would love to return. We only visited the pub

Lovely pub in a great location for a Sunday lunch - felt it was let down by a poor array of vegetables on offer. That said, what we had was very nice with some great meat and gravy.

We ate here last night and the food was very very good indeed. Somehow they even managed to make the roasted cabbage taste absolutely delicious. If we are ever in Bury St Edmunds again, we will make a bee line for this pub!

Always greeted with a smile here! The food is delicious and good size portions! We love the burgers! Service and staff are always spot-on too! I’m sure we will be back real soon!

Brilliant pub, for example value for money, ample-sized portions and top quality food such as best onion rings ever - lovely, light crispy batter and soft, unctuous onions; great courtyard for us and the dog with massive sun umbrellas providing shade but ample space in the sun also. We were served quickly and the staff were all lovely.

Loved this pub! Great fast service, opened another till just as I'd started to wait, great hidden beer garden in the back with loads of space and 2 for 1 on flint eye was a nice surprise!

Great historical pub, just steps away from the cathedral and Saint Mary’s. Lots of history to take in and view. Also a hotel. Large outside seating area to enjoy the beautiful weather. Local ales brewed and sold here. Rustic and fun atmosphere.

Was nice, bustling pub.
Pleasant staff and average prices.
Likely go again, however prices make it more of a treat rather than a regular occurrence.

The team in the D&P are lovely, the food never fails to impress and the beer is particularly well kept. The pub has a lovely atmosphere!

Excellent location, although not much parking. That said, we always got a space. Bar atmosphere was excellent.

A perfect place to stay in the centre of Bury St Edmunds. The room was clean and had a lovely shower. The entrance to the room was a little off putting due to an old looking carpet which was stained. However don't be put off, the food was not a bad standard but the staff where excellent and very friendly.

Food was really lovely and freshly cooked. Unfortunately no-one came back to ask if we wanted dessert so we just left an hour after we finished our meals. But this didn't change what a lovely evening we had with friends. Nice atmosphere.

Rang up after pumpkin hunting with the kids and dog and was so pleased with the kindness of staff general ambience and food . They offered a water bowl for the dog and even though we left a right mess ( kids and dog=destruction) they couldn't have been nicer . Will definitely be back
Lovely place!

This used to be a lovely friendly welcoming pub, good food, excellent service, and became our once a month treat coming from Norwich to bury for the day. Today was awful! Extremely short staffed given time of year, waited well over an hour for food (2 burgers, and a Mac n cheese, child's Mac n cheese with dessert) rude barman! Treated like shit!
To top it off my nearly 3 year old dessert got forgot! I will add probably will no longer be our usual treat day out. Gone down the pan has the dog and partridge. Totally disgusted!
Wish to add the waitress seemed more interested in her phone whilst walking around rather than actually attending customers.

Had my friends hen meal here yesterday although we were late the staff couldn't have been more helpful, the food was quick and delicious and not one person on our table of ten had a bad thing to say. Lovely place compliments to the manager and the team.

Stayed there recently, booking in seemed a bit disorganised , we couldn't find anyone, eventually the man behind the bar checked us in. Rooms were nice, outside was very dirty and greasy marks on the ground which was a put off. No drinks allowed for guests when we returned at midnight which we thought was strange as it was a pub, staff took no interest in us which was a shame as we were a party of 7. Lunch was awful really bad pub grub, Breakfast was fine but difficult to get served, atmosphere not great and a lot of rubbish by the breakfast room door. Didn't think it was worth it for the price £70 for a single room and £80 for a double.
Sarah Ellison
Had really disappointing family Christmas meal here, such a shame. Food was poor and, apart from lovely Emma who tried so hard to help, the service was dreadful. Not worth the money.
Peter Bugg
Good beer & food very good well worth the visit.
