Always heaving on Sundays when I go. Which is a good sign!
Staff are always working very hard to keep up the masses fed and watered here.
The Carvery is so good. Improved on prior years also.
The extras you can get of Pigs in Blankets, Honey Parsnips and Cauliflower cheese are really really tasty and I believe worth being added extra side orders.
I wouldn't expect to be seated at your booking time, as they're so busy they're bound to have guests overnight their slot.
Great value for money which the food.
The Desserts are the best, it really a world apart from most other eateries.
100% reccomend it here.

On arrival we was seated in a very noisey area, we requested to move which they sorted which was great, bit of delay in getting drink but it was very busy. Food very nice. Desserts were amazing. Toilets were in need of a good clean I think that was down to unsupervised children as toilet paper was bunged up in most of loos and all over floor.

Ignore the previous review from Hart, we were in the restaurant at the same time and this family were looking for an excuse not to pay. They were incredibly rude. Our food was really good and great value, staff were really friendly and I felt really sorry for them.

Not much parking, we got lucky. 13:00 on a Sunday. Incredible carvery. Meat melts in your mouth. Yorkies could be a bit better but still decent. Would happily eat here again.

Service was quick. Prices reasonable. My Lemon meringue pie was not so good. Crust was too thick and hard.

A great place for carvery but also has a good mix of other options including veggie and vegan. I had spicy jackfruit bao buns as a starter which were very tasty (and filling) and my normal option of beef carvery for mains. My husband enjoyed a spicy chicken dish on our last visit. As it's a short drive from home we usually ring first for a table but generally there is plenty of room on weekdays even in holiday time. Off season there are less rooms open but they open all areas during the summer. There is also a pleasant terrace outside and a small play area for children

The food was lovely. We had a carvery, all had different meats, all really tender, beef, turkey & gammon.
Service ok, some staff better than others. The gentleman carving the meat was very jolly & had a laugh with us.
Atmosphere...well, its a very busy pub, no real atmosphere just lots of people eating, but it's OK.

We had a lovely meal here today, really lovely staff, super tasty food, massive portions. I dont think I'll need to eat again for a week! They had a really good gluten free menu, the bread was perfect! Baked camembert was delicious and the sizzling steak was gorgeous. We all had a good experience, I'm so happy we chose The Shire, it made mums birthday perfect

Family of four staying at nanpusker lakes was recommend by the owner to come here and have a carvery. WOW this did not disappoint we highly recommend, the meat was melt in your mouth, the veg was to die for. All local produce best carvery we have ever had.

Best carvery EVER!!! They don't just do carvery either. Chicken sizzler is pretty amazing too. Lovely friendly staff and so great local beverages to be had here. Great value for money. The food won't disappoint. Also dog friendly too.
I would recommend booking, out of season on a school night and the tables where full. Enjoy this gem of a place.
