Exceptional menu and food. Service was wonderful. What a gem of a restaurant. If you've never eaten here, I'd strongly recommend. The pan fried Halibut was heavenly.
So good! Really impressed - food was fresh and vibrant, service was brilliant and the cocktails are totally unique.
We were served by the guy who'd created the cocktail list, and he was happy to chat about the food and drinks, as well as share recommendations.
Top place which isn't too expensive for fine food.
I was lucky to dine here twice in one day. I had the mushroom risotto as a starter but nothing else as returning in the evening. It was delicious.
The evening party had beef Wellington, halibut and pork belly. All were enjoyed.
The oak has a large wine list with plenty of variety. Service was very friendly so I’d love to return next time I’m in Cambridge.
My wife and I had dinner in a raining and cold evening. We still liked to sit in the lovely yard. Philip turned on the heater for us. Thanks very much for his kindness! Philip is a wine master. The courses are really wonderful!
Lovely dinner at the Oak Bistro. Prawns were some of the freshest I've had in the UK. Duck was surprisingly crisp and tender, but I think could have done with more jus. The fish was flaky and well cooked as well. Service was wonderful.
We had the most amazing meal at The Oak Bistro! The service was great, all the staff were so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The food was presented beautifully and tasted even better than it looked! We would highly recommend the scallops, beef wellington, parmigiana and the raspberry crème brûlée but every dish we had was delicious. Thank you for a perfect evening!
The Oak Bistro is the best restaurant in Cambridge. The cheesecake I just ate was possibly the best pudding I have ever eaten - the balance of flavours, the perfect and satisfying textures and sensuous mouth feel were all simply perfect. We had three starters (prawns, scallops and pork belly) all were fabulous- we spent a good 5 minutes trying to decide which was the best. The mains were excellent (the Cod and the gnocchi), great flavours, everything perfectly cooked.
The wine at only £30 was sensational (see the picture), if I had paid £100 for that bottle I would have been happy.
I have eaten everywhere in Cambridge and there are tons of good places but as of June 2023 this is the best on just about every measure including value for money.
Sorry that some of the pictures are of food that we had started, the presentation is good too just spoiled by us diving in.
Amazing dinner at The Oak Bistro! We did not have a reservation, but they kindly accommodated us at the last minute. The food was delicious; I really recommend the wellington if you like red meat. IT was super tender and tasty!
I finished with the sticky toffee pudding, which was really good too!
The staff was really kind, and extra attentive to my friend who was pregnant.
Don't hesitate!
Every dish was exquisitely presented and the food tasted amazing. Philip was an excellent host and made us feel very welcome. We all felt that the prices represented great value for money.
Had a lovely dinner here and the entrees, desserts and wine selection were excellent. I will be back next time I’m in town. The scallops and chocolate fondant cake are the best!
Very courteous service, great atmosphere albeit a bit loud when tables are filled and excellent food presentation! We were quite happy about all the dishes but found the cod a tad salty and the salmon a little lacking in flavour. Risotto was decent, not the type where the rice is still hard in the centre. The highlight for me was probably the poached pear! Delicious with the mascarpone :) the jam in strawberries cheesecake also very tasty! Would visit again and try other dishes!
4.3 Overall, a really good meal at Oak Bistro. We sat in the back garden which provided a different perspective than always sitting inside. They have done it up nicely, in a tight space. A little bit of light jazz and lighting would have made it a 5. On the food....very good. I had the steak frites with salad. We also had the duck confit and the swordfish filet. My steak was cooked perfectly and the fries were good. Needed a bit more salt. The swordfish looked great and the confit was very nice. For dessert, the sticky toffee pudding and the raspberry creme brulee were the stars. We also had the poached pear with marscapone. It was good, not great. Service was attentive and helpful. They do a good job. I'd definitely recommend Oak Bistro for anyone traveling to Cambridge.
