Superior pub close to several colleges in Cambridge that doesn't demonstrably advertise its identity as a Greene King establishment. The outside seating area is very picturesque, directly by the river and "Cambridge Chauffeur Punts". Very nice seating there unless the sun is burning down (No umbrellas). Cask selection is limited (5 taps, incl. the perennial GK IPA and Abbott Ale), but I found a nice guest APA. Plenty busy all day during the summer. Friendly service and adequate seating inside, too. Moderate prices for Cambridge. Good option for both tourists and students.

We had a lovely experience for lunch at The Anchor. Ideally located on the River with lovely views and access points. Staff were super friendly and attentive from start to finish. We all had Sunday roast, I opted for the Vegan Wellington which did not disappoint. It was delicious and filling, the only thing i would have liked was a little more of the vegetables for the pricepoint to accompany. Gravy was superb and everything cooked to perfection. Finished off with a sticky toffee pudding for dessert which was also quite good.

Great place for a bite to eat and a pint with the family. Food was great and our host was excellent. Would have given 5 stars all round and deservedly so but bathrooms were in bad shape and pretty gross. If that's not an issue for you I would recommend and will certainly be back.

I read about Syd Barret visiting this pub as a school kid and how it has a legacy. I don't think a lot of people know about this. You can find Syd's portraits ( also a few of the band members- Gilmour and Waters , as they are from Cambridge) on the wall.
The food was good, good selection of beers on tap. It's right next to a punting hire place. The outdoor balcony has a great view (sometimes chaotic) of people punting.
Went purely cos of the Floyd legacy.

Lovely place with great food and vibe and the view is really cute. Had a chicken roast, really good! Went there to watch the rugby world cup and have a beer and it did not disappoint. Would absolutely recommend.

We had a brilliant meal here on a sunny Friday afternoon. The upstairs area was very airy and pleasant and the food was fantastic: all cooked freshly and very tasty indeed. The stars of the show though, were Ian and the team who were so brilliant with our children and us. It’s hard to imagine a friendlier, more professional team. Fantastic service and Ian’s wealth of experience in the industry was clear to see. The beer was great too. We’ll be back!

The pub is very nice, the atmosphere is lovely, they have a very nice view on the river and punts 😊 service was excellent, very professional with good recommendations. Ian was just the best!

Great roast place for Easter weekend. We got lamb roast and added additional sides. Cauliflower cheese is great! Great view of the punting too!

Food was excellent, I had the shepherds pie, nice amount of chunky lamb, topped with piped on mash. The gravy was actually a highlight. Very nice.

AWESOME bartender. Went out of his way to find me the exact fish bowl gin glass I wanted, and served me the best gin and tonic with loads of ice. Just a lovely way to spend a summer afternoon in Cambridge and then sat by the river watching the punters!!!!

Fabulous place! We've been coming here regularly for a number of years and never been disappointed. The staff are always very friendly, helpful and professional and importantly the premises are very clean. But, it is a shame that the general public abuse the Anchor's toilets and leave them dirty.

Lazy lunch watching punts turn around, pickup and drop passengers, and trying to avoid bumping into the bridge.
Here I was introduced to Cambridge Gin - very smooth dry gin which I ended up drinking far too much of.

The cod was delicious, and the setting was lovely. The only issue I had was that it was 30° today, and their terrace has no shade... we started off outside, but even with hats and lots of water, we had to move inside halfway through eating. An investment in parasols would be a massive plus.

Arrived at 14.30 today and found a lovely table overlooking the water watching the punters go by. Ordered our food and waited for almost an hour for it to arrive. Yes it was a lovely sunny day and the place was busy but not hectic. After 45 mins I politely asked how long we were likely to wait until it arrived, I was told they were very busy in the kitchen and our food was on its way. Meanwhile a rather large group of people had overtaken the area where we were sitting almost encroaching on our table and being very noisy and boisterous! Their food somehow was served before ours. Once our food arrived it was of very poor standard - £13 for a ploughman’s that consisted of 2 small wedges of cheese, a few strips of ham, 3 slices of a regular sized baguette, a pork pie and a chipolata, a further £15 for what was just a chicken thigh cooked in a garlic sauce and a small side of French fries. Wouldn’t go back for food but is a nice place to sit and have a drink if you can find a space!

I live and study at Darwin college..all the way from Kenya (Obama's father village-Kogello).
The anchor usually creates to me that ambient n lively environment as I dig into my PhD studies..... and for a long time the Anchor has been my compass direction and the obvious meeting point fro my friends for social meet-ups.
The pub is off the hook..how I wish they did some special African cuisine that called Nyama choma (goat-meat barbecue style of Safari Tours in Kenya). Otherwise, I usually struggle with English menu till i find something relevant for my stomach..like Fries or that sumptuous Burger... Keep it up.
Improve on the lighting - need some Romantic lighting in tha place and some cozy seats.
Cant forget an incident there....as expensive as the place is, I was still overcharged by £5 for a £10 drink but some lovely staff realized it and refunded it that means I will still be back again til Cambridge do us part!!!

I had fond memories of this place from my time in College. We had Sunday roast which was average. The queue to the bar at 12:30 was 20 minutes; in fact the food arrived before we got to the bar to order the drinks. A lovely place to have a drink though.

Nice place and nice looking came on recommendation for roasts yesterday afternoon, food wasn't really of great standard the beef was chewy undercooked and not at all Nice, told the waiter and he joked saying he would try it and that was that. Rest of our experience was ok but wouldn t come back or recommend.

Very nice staff to match perfect location.
Had a pint after punting on the river. Being unsure of the brews I was offered a sample of recommended beer which proved to be very good

I came to Cambridge with my boyfriend last week and we stopped off at the Anchor for a drink. We sat outside on the terrace and watched the punting, it has a beautiful atmosphere.
Unfortunately my boyfriend left his jacket while we were there but the amazingly kind staff at the pub posted it back to us in Essex. There's not many people out there today that would do that. We are so so grateful, the jacket can't be replaced.
I would highly recommend this pub.

The location was fantastic but the food was awful. We had a squid starter which was cold and chicken flatbreads each made with 2 chicken thighs (fat and skin included!). No yogurt sauce. Not what I expected for £9.50 each. No one asked if everything was ok with our meal. Certainly won't eat there again but fabulous location for drinks.

No doubt it's a great location. Thought staff were friendly and the food was very good. Bit pricey but I guess you pay extra for the location.
Roel Stigter
Location great, nice pub, friendly staff, very average food quality (and fish & chips very poor)
Fiona Bale
Great place to sit by the river friendly staff great food great service and a big bonus great weather
Sharon Korbey
Although it was very busy, and the staff were under a lot of pressure, the service was professional and friendly. The food was delicious. I’ll definitely be back.
Elaine Makowska
Just to sit there with a jug of pimms and watch the punters having fun by the river Cambridge is a great place to go and plus the anchor
Ian T Kirk
Very standard Sunday roast, plate taken over with massive Yorkshire pud and half a chicken, was not impressed with cold stuffing....
Maria Hill
Very slow service, had to wait ages for our food, not enough kitchen staff perhaps or too many tables.
Stephen Smith
Great location busy Sunday in half term but welcomed 4 of us with 2 dogs. Good food and didn’t have to wait too long!
