Polite and helpful staff, fab food, something different to your average meal out, highly recommend!
We tried our luck last minute on Saturday nite and where lucky to get a table for 4
The welcome was so friendly the staff very attentive helpful with our menu choices .
We went for the set meal for 4 which was totally scrummy .
I'll defiantly be going there again , it's a pretty vast menu and i wanna try it all ...
Kimchi are taking a low-key approach to marketing themselves - in fact, they're just letting the food speak for itself. After just over one month of trading, this Korean restaurant on Cowbridge Road East has garnered a handful of 5 star reviews on Tripadvisor, has no telephone number online (by the way it’s 02920227122), no social media accounts and no website. Thankfully, it doesn’t seem to be doing them any harm – on the Saturday night we visited, it was packed to the rafters. Furthermore the owner, who explained that he has opened the restaurant to service the needs of Cardiff’s Korean food crazy Chinese student population, has been thrilled by the reception they’ve received from locals and students alike. I can understand why. Having already waxed lyrical about Yakiniku, Cardiff’s other Korean restaurant , over two years ago, it’s much the same this time around. Kimchi’s food is a breath of fresh air - a unique, sociable experience offering flavours and textures which are a refresh
My family and I were looking for a perfect birthday place for me and we came across this Korean barbecue, we never tried Korean food so this was new to us, but this restaurant filled all our expectations and more! This place was beautiful, it was traditional and amazing, the server lady was so nice as well as the other servers, they were so polite and attentive to us and always made sure we were happy with what we got. Food wise it was delicious, the food was large in portions and seasoned beautifully. Everything was set out neatly and conveniently! 100% would recommend eating here, food, service and the building in itself was and is a 10/10!
Really good place for a Korean BBQ experience. Is not an all you cat eat however the proportions were very good. The only 2 bad things were that the place is small, 6 tables of 4 at most I think, and that they only accept cash. Other than that, a very good place! You can also take away your leftovers :)
Great food at affordable prices! Awesome kbbq experience. The kimchi pancake was excellent and crispy
Overall pretty decent, but some of the food was a bit bland (kimchi was too light in taste).
Service was ok, the waitress who served us was quite friendly.
There’s a decent amount of meat with the BBQ items so it was very filling. The quality of the meat was on par with the price we paid.
I had to ask for ssamjang (sauce you have with the meat), which I would have expected to have come with the food as default, but they provided on request.
Value was not bad for the meat, but I find the sides expensive, especially considering they are mediocre.
Ok. So we *really* wanted to have a Korean BBQ and were so excited to see that there was one in Cardiff. There were some reviews that made us a bit worried but we tried it anyway.
Note that they only accept cash. But there is a cash machine about 100m along the road. So really not a problem.
I am so glad that we did. This is a small family run business. The staff were very courteous. The food was awesome. The place was super busy and this was mid week. We left having had a great meal and also felt so happy to have supported a small business rather than a random chain. Highly recommend.
Went there for my birthday dinner for the first time, and I absolutely loved it. We sat upstairs. The food was great and was in large proportions which was even better. The servers were really nice and very quick too. It was a very informal environment which was nice and made me feel like I was eating at home. Only downside is they only take cash so I had to dig up my calculation skills (i still got it wrong)😂
One of the best meals I’ve ever had. Such a fun experience as well being able to cook your own food. Very reasonably priced! We have also ordered a bento box from them delivered and it was equally amazing. Super traditional and authentic also - incredible!
We got kimchi fried rice, kimchi pancake and veggie bibimbap. Fried rice was delicious, flavourful, reminded me of ones I had in Korea. Kimchi pancake was a little thicker than I was used to but still crispy and a great side to share. Friend got the bibimbap and enjoyed it thoroughly, though gochujang sauce is a little thin but not much of a bother. Man by the till is superbly friendly! It was a hot day and we were sat by the window and he asked whether we wanted to move closer to the air conditioning which was really nice 😊
Family vibe and had a nice chat with him. Cant wait to go back!
I have had a great experience here and I think I already wrote about it. Trust that if you are new here they will advise you appropriately as the portions are big enough for two people. Definitely I recommend the grilled chicken and beef. pastry was delicious too The drinks are same price as everywhere but if you prefer something different is the traditional Korean wine / drink . Very friendly personnel and also respectful as per Korean tradition. Take in consideration to pay cash ! That’s annoying but is a cash machine closed by. I recommend reservations and find the parking space before going out for lunch as is free and close by but not so obviously marked up at least wasn’t for me. not the modern still and the toilet really disappointed me but here we are we had a good time .
Cool little place. Had a really enjoyable lunch. Well worth the short walk from the city centre. Very reasonable prices and great portions.
