We visited Castle Douglas today and happened upon Mad Hatter in the main street. The food here is lovely, we enjoyed two jacket potatoes, one with haggis the other with curried chicken. Fresh, tasty and enjoyable. I also noticed the cafe was very, very clean. If you visit a lot of places after the pandemic they've gone back to their bad old ways of not properly cleaning tables. The table and chairs were very clean 👍 it's good to see someone running a tight ship. Staff were friendly and the prices were very reasonable. I saw a couple of posts moaning about prices, I don't think they've been out recently. Prices in England and Scotland in general are much higher than here.
Nice place, we got in just before they got completely full. Very popular.
Food was good traditional food but wish I'd seen the specials board before I ordered as there were some real bargains 😁
Very dog friendly which is OK if you like dogs 😉
Toilets were spotless👍
Great place it says dogs welcome. And they are welcome, other businesses should take note. our dog had a doggy ice cream whish they loved. The food I ordered was too much for me, and the same for my good Lady. She had a Toastie and it was so thick with filling she was laughing and saying well worth the money. Staff very Polite and smiling which I think makes the visit even more pleasurable. Keep up the fantastic work you all do there. My Wife says she would come back just for the Toastie.
Really great breakfast, kinda old school but made a nice change. Dogs welcome which was great! Staff were all very friendly.
Fabulous food, the burger with the haggis was amazing!!
Super friendly staff, really welcoming to us and our dog.
Wish we lived nearer!

Great dog friendly cafe in the centre of Castle Douglas. Lovely staff, great food and very reasonably priced. The dogs got a cheeky biscuit or two as well
