Another great experience at the Griffin. I've visited many times and always been impressed. A good selection of food to cater for all tastes. This is a well established eatery that always has a pleasant atmosphere. Good selection of ales too. The crowning element is the service. This is by far the best service I have received in a restaurant of this nature. Highly recommend a visit.

Our second visit and second time being served by the lovely Bonny. Fabulous food, presented on beautiful plates in good time despite it being VERY busy tonight. And fabulous service again from Bonny. We look forward to our next visit.

Lucian was a super friendly server at The Griffin, we had a gorgeous Sunday roast (extra pigs in blankets well worth it!) and felt well looked after. The kids especially enjoyed their decadent puddings. Thank you!

Great service. Lucian was very helpful and walked the extra mile to make us feel very well looked after. Will definitely recommend the place and come back again multiple times. Good atmosphere as well.

Excellent menu. Open most of the day. Great cup of tea too. Just a few minutes from the lovely walk along the Thames. Plenty of parking. Spacious bar and equally spacious eating areas. Nice part of Reading. Close to some interesting shops. Brunch from 9:30. Dinner late into the evening. Some private dining areas you can reserve. We didn't book but luckily got a table early evening. Would recommend you book to be certain. Well worth a try. Great location. Great food. Great atmosphere. Good beer too! Steak & Ale puff pastry pie. 😋 👍🏼 👌🏽

We always have a wonderful meal at the Griffin and today was no different. Our parents request to come here now when they come to visit us. We had exceptional service from Lucian, he was really attentive and our whole party commented on how he went above and beyond. Thank you so much Lucian and all the team. We'll be back!

Quite a nice place to have a 'nothing special' lunch. Everything was OK. The menu was fairly standard as was the quality of everything. Nothing really to say other than it was fine. Very average.

Absolutely lovely! We visited from Newcastle, although the majority of us are originally from Reading, and my grandmothers who were with us still live there. The pub was clean, well lit and welcoming. The lady behind the bar greeted us straightaway and showed us to our table despite us being early. The food options for breakfast were fantastic although I would say the children's options were very limited- however, I appreciate it's not a children oriented venue, and we were able to order pancakes for the 2 children to share from the adult menu. The food was fresh and delicious and the member of staff was extremely attentive to our needs. The food was really reasonably priced- living up north I'm used to things being more expensive in Reading but this was even more reasonable than a lot of places up here!

We went for Sunday Lunch for a treat as my friends Tomorrow Bird were singing in the pub garden later. We received attentive but not overbearing service from our waiter. I had a well filled chicken and ham hock pie and mash followed by a salted caramel sundae. Very good and well presented, my guest said the same about their roast turkey dinner with a medley of ice cream. We retired to the spacey garden afterwards near to the riverside. Looking forward to future visits.

Never had a bad experience at The Griffin and is the perfect oasis on a sunny day. And a cost escape in the winter. The food is brilliant for the price. It's a mixed clientele with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

I visited the Griffin with my friend on a busy Friday lunch. We were seen to straight away. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was lovely. The service was brilliant, Lucian took excellent care of us and nothing was too much of an ask for him. We will definitely be returning soon!

Lucian was our host for Sunday lunch. Awesome service and food. He did a great job looking after us. The scampi wasn’t very generous only 3 pieces but otherwise a great meal and desert

I have made hundreds of burgers and eaten thousands and I’m always reluctant to order one but I’m glad I did!! My wife had the fish and chips and said it was very good. Lucian was our waiter and he was very polite and attentive! ✌️

Nice pub, befitted to a night out. Visited here with a couple of colleagues and had a great meal and beverage. The draft beer was top notch, Griffin gets rave reviews for their pies and the slow cooked beef ale pie kept up to the expectations.

I tried the mixed grill at Griffin which included a large portion of chips, ham, small 3 oz steak, chicken, sausage, and blood sausage. Portions were large, food was good, and service was great.

Disappointing Fathers Day Lunch. We went along to the Griffin this Fathers day based on their having changed management, redone the interior and hired a new Chef. The pub itself inside is very nice and although it was Fathers Day seemed a little quite. We ordered the roast beef and the roast chicken. My partner is a Coeliac so we checked that there was no Gluten or Wheat in the gravy or any the part of the food and were assured that the Chef was Top Class and would never use flour in his gravy. Ok we thought sounds great. Unfortunately the food arrived within 2 minutes of our order which is a little quick really.

The food looked great but was unfortunately stone cold and the potatoes looked like they had been reheated several times. We tried a bit of the mash and it was basically no heat in it at all. We request kindly that the food be replaced and so it was taken to the kitchen and as far as I can tell it was returned exactly as it was when we first received it. This time it took twice as long to not reheat it than it did to bring it out in the first place. But the Chef sent his apologies.

After that with a 5 year old who was hungry and a 4 month old baby getting restless we decided to simply eat it and leave. When asked if the food was ok now we told the waiter that the food was still cold and we were only eating it because we were actually quite hungry and didn't want to wait for a second time for the food to be returned again cold. He just walked away and returned 5 minutes later to say nothing more than. The Chef send his apologies. No mention of any real apology or any concern or understanding.

It was a disappointment that ruined our fathers day lunch and one we will never repeat. We will be sure to tell anyone we know that the Griffen is not to be visited and will continue to go to the Bell in Godstone or the Red Barn in Lingfield where you can always be sure to get a hot food and excellent service.

0 our of 5 from us I'm afraid.
