Beautiful characterful pub with lovely Shepherd Neame Ales on and all in great condition. We stopped off for a quick drink but ended up staying all evening and had a lovely meal made with quality ingredients. The pub is about 1 mile maybe more off the main road and well worth the small detour!

What a wonderful place ! Very typical, very english. Food was delicious. Please try the mussels ! They even cooked some food for children that was not in the menu. Definitely a 5 stars ! Thank you for the warm welcome and history information of the pub.
Huge fan. So much so that I'm submitting this review while mid-meal here - a spectacular chicken and chorizo pasta, which is one of the most satisfying meals I've had in ages. Every one behind the bar also couldn't be more friendly and welcoming and the pub has a great traditional local pub feel.
Beautiful traditional country / small village pub and restaurant, set in the lovely Chartham near to Canterbury in Kent.

I had the Homemade Cajun Chicken Burger platte! And what beautiful presentation, honestly it was delicious!!

We think this is the best pub in the world. We (Aussies from Sydney) lived in Chartham for a year in 2007/ 8 and visited often with friends and also family who were visiting us. The food was always the best!
We’ve been back in 2010 and 2018, and while I think the pub has changed hands a few times, it has still always been fabulous.
Yesterday was our most recent visit for my birthday (could have not thought of anywhere better to go 😊) with my now 24 and 22 year old daughters, who first visited when they were 6 and 8. Was a real walk down memory lane for all of us, and the food was still fabulous!
The service was also great and the meals reasonably priced.
A proper pub. Nice staff, friendly locals and good food and drink.
I chose a Bacon, lettuce and tomato baguette and a side order of chips from their lunch menu washed down with a nice cold pint of Five Grain lager. The food was brought out promptly, was well presented and most importantly was very tasty.
The pub had a nice relaxed atmosphere with some good music playing in the background. There is also a beer garden behind the property which we didn't use on this occasion, but have in the past.
The pub is also used by many walkers and also cyclists who stop off there after a walk or cycle along the nearby river which is very picturesque and peaceful.
Highly recommended.
Came to Chartham to visit my bestfriend and very quickly fell in love with the charm of the town and people. Quiz night at the Artichoke was a lot of fun! It had such great vibes and they pour a good drink. I would highly recommend a visit to the Artichoke. 🍻
Had a great breakfast on Sunday morning. Thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it.
Fantastic to stumble across this jewel, apparently the oldest pub in Canterbury area with a warm welcome, great beer and fab food.
Great little country oub, well run with a great atmosphere. Very friendly staff and the food was so good. Best fish finger sandwich in Kent!
