Excellent Fish & Chips at reasonable prices without compromising the portion size like others. I have tried all the others over the years but Gold River is the only one who turns out quality fish and chips without issue.

Probably the best fish and chip shop in Chelmsford! I travel across town for this and it's worth every penny. If you order the haddock, you're practically ordering a small whale 🐳 the portions are huge!! Love it!

This chip and fish takeaway is quite simply the best you will ever have the pleasure of trying. People should come from far and near, just to try this man’s chip and fish. Any review that is below five stars is a complete joke and you shouldn’t bother reading it.

Too many fish and chip shops pre cook the fish to provide a faster service. Gold River however only cook to order. This ensures the batter is crisp and holds the fish in a golden, crunchy cocoon. I have used this shop for over 20 years and maintain it is the best in Chelmsford. The fish cakes are also something to be tried, almost have a home made quality to them. Still the best in Chelmsford

Love this place! We always travel from about 20 minutes away but it is absolutely worth it. When you order a large fish you definitely get a large fish. It has a crispy batter and tastes lovely. Chips are nice and flavourful aswell. Staff are very friendly also. In my opinion it is the best fish and chip shop in Essex!
