The Running Mare

First time visiting since it became Ego. What a nice surprise. Staff were very friendly and the atmosphere lovely. But the highlight was the menu choices and food, which was outstanding. Probably the best sticky toffee pudding I've ever had. Booked to go back next week and try some different offerings.

Read a lot of reviews on here saying the food is good but I must have high standards as I wouldn't rush back I have to be fair and say the fish was nice and staff friendly but chips were disgusting, peas had been mullered in the microwave and the top of the pate was like a brick. My friends fish cakes were almost burnt altogether a disappointing experience

Very nicely decorated restaurant and very good service. We were a party of 7 for an 80th birthday celebration. Generally the food was ok and a few of us really enjoyed our dinners. The only problem was the 300g sirloin steak I had seemed to be the same size as the 200g, was a little tough with a chunk of fat on it and the chips were very overdone on all of the meals. When asked if all was ok I did mention the problem but nothing was done about it and no compensation offered. I didn't think my particular meal warranted the £22.00 price tag. I would visit again but would avoid having steak.

Had to wait a very long time for food which certainly wasn't worth the price or the wait. The place calls itself a pub and a restaurant. Im sure that anything can call itself that based on this visit. Wouldn't visit again. Gave 2 stars on the basis that my "meal" (snack) was actually cooked. Extremely disappointing.
