The first visit post pandemic and the changes since my last attendance are quite astonishing and a pleasure to behold.
Extensive indoor reconfiguration and decor after an expensive refit internally and externally, the garden is most attractively laid out. All it needs is conducive weather (not available on this visit) to be enjoyed. Money has been well spent.
Not on the Cask Marque Ale Trail, although it should be. A Bristol Beer Factory 'Tme to Burn' (4%ABV) was well worth a Cask Marque accreditation. The front of staff were also quick to serve a sampler before purchase just as those who are Cask Marque trained are taught to do.
Also worth a mention, Mike, our waiter on the day, courteous and attentive but not intrusive, clearly well attuned to customer facing protocol. The meals served, from a menue with many original recipes, was beyond reproach. My own starter, modified to my request and my dining colleague's faddy peculiarities, were catered for without demur.
A most enjoyable evening - to be repeated.
We went at 1.45 Sunday 4/6. We had a warm welcome from Jean. We decided to have drinks in a very pleasant sunny garden. Our order was taken and served at our table inside on time. The food was hot and delicious with large portions. It was extremely good value money, including drinks. We’ll certainly be back, the staff continually checked if all was well.
Brilliant new gastropub offering great food and service, in lovely comfortable surroundings. What a find and what great addition to Chew Magna.
March update: great Sunday lunch, well above average and service excellent too. Booking essential.
Do try the spectacular brownies for pud, with honeycomb and orange sauce. simply gorgeous!
First visit but definitely not our last. Very friendly welcome. We were offered an outside or inside table. We chose to sit inside despite it being a lovely day. Our Sunday roast lunch was superb. Bubble and squeak croquette and squid to start, followed by a pork and a beef roast. Both meats cooked extremely well. Veggies were plentiful and not at extra cost (which seems to a norm these days). Sticky toffee pudding and a pavlova for dessert. All the food was great and obviously home cooked. Very friendly staff, nice atmosphere.
Never been here before. My wife and rI booked for the night en-route back to London.
Charming - putting it mildly - pub/hotel in wondrous Somerset village.
Had dinner- simply superb! Deserves a Michelin star.
Lovage and torched mackerel starter - unbelievable - followed by best whole Plaice I’ve ever had !
Served with sobrasada butter and crisped Aioli potatoes. - could have been in Puerto Pollensa.
Please don’t go there. - I want to keep it a secret.
Excellent meal tonight celebrating our daughters graduation. Service excellent.
Excellently kept real ale at The Queens. Free Wi-Fi too. Does rooms and the food looks good.
My vote for the best pub in Chew Magna.
Delicious roast and excellent service. Great gluten free options too!
Superb food served by quality waiting staff in a beautiful, old pub in a quiet street in Chew Magna. What more can you ask for?Cheers.
