My wife and I just had quite possibly the best fish and chips i have ever tasted( home made batter and real chips) good service with a smile. This lovely pub is also dog friendly. Highly recommended

The food is excellent the 12 dishes of the tapas were all different and tasty in the photo is 2 full tapas meals for 4 people and we were full.

It's a warm & cosy friendly place. We went early Friday evening & the food was excellent,served by lovely staff. We had fish & chips & gammon. Followed by coffee & mince pies. Yummy. We will be going back again soon.x

Stop over for lunch before retuning home on a icey Sunday in December 2022. Food was outstanding, loved the logburner on icy day, very homely and comforting. Would highly recommend this awesome pub.

Went to golden lion tonight for a meal with friends. 4 of us tried the tapas and enjoyed them
3 others order from the menu. And they also enjoyed there food. This the first time we had been here and found it to be very friendly we all had a good night . Good food good service and a very friendly place x

Spotted this pub as we were driving to Botany Bay and decided to stop for tea on the way back home. Very cosy and relaxing. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. We ordered from the main meals menu and every dish was lovely and fresh. We will definitely come back 😊

I was getting fed up with same old take away found out golden lion has started a take away service during this horrible pandemic.. what can I say? Why didn't you think of this before really good food but not just good food...... pub food that isn't on your run of the mill takeaway menu. Highly recommend Darren and his new venture to anybody reading this review. A takeaway to be beaten and the friendliest service on collection keep up the good work golden lion

Monday night half-term tea; 3 courses for £15. Plenty of variety on the menu. Portion size and quality of food absolutely bang-on.
Landlord has a very good handle on keeping his pub and restaurant Covid secure. Accommodated our family of four and a foursome family of friends on adjacent but separated tables in our own secluded area such that it was as good as an intimate dinner party at home without having to break lockdown guidelines.
Well done Golden Lion Team, and many thanks for allowing us to wander off-menu to satisfy faddy children's wants and needs.

Was passing and went in for a drink.. Saturday night.. there was live music on which was great.. everyone including the regulars to the staff made us feel very welcome, going to go back definitely as the food looked awesome.. it's a great little gem of a pub would recommend a visit..

Called here for lunch on the way to Chorley.
Had passed it previously and thought it looked ok. Was met by a very friendly guy who took our drinks order and brought it to our table, we both had a two course meal and the food was lovely. Was very impressed with the pub overall and will definitely be calling in again.

Excellent meal with friends, Pea Soup was great, Steak Stroganoff superb, Chicken with Pepper Sauce brilliant as was the Sticky Toffe Pudding also the Winter Berry Crumble. Would recommed this place in a heartbeat. We will be returning soon.

Popped in for a family lunch on Sunday..... we were a party of 7 and all ordered different food. All the meals arrived together, with every plate piping hot and perfectly presented. The food is of excellent quality, all freshly made. I wanted Cheese and onion pie, and although they had none of their usual ones left, they made up a special version in a pie dish with a flaky pastry top for me - it was fabulous (maybe this should be on the menu as a regular?) ! Thoroughly recommended �

We’ve had some great meals here this year. The food is freshly prepared with quality ingredients (locally sourced meats etc). The staff are really friendly and can’t do enough for you. They’re child friendly and even point our kiddies in the direction of their board games/colouring books if they can tell that they’re looking for something to do. We love catching up with friends and family here especially since the recent refurbishment. We had a family meal here yesterday and were especially impressed with the chef when he made our son a dessert especially for him from scratch just because he fancied something with lemon. Came as a family of 6 good menu choice starters arrived thought mushrooms were a little on small side but good long long wait till mains came they weren’t full capacity anyway meal came my steak was beautiful my hubby wasn’t impressed with his cheese pie could not taste the cheese it went bk and he had steak pie which he enjoyed my big whinge is nobody pointed out the lovely profiterole shared on the chalk menu! I had already ordered pudding and wish someone would have shown me this as I would have preferred it so would my kids

Had a truly memorable meal at my local on Tuesday. I’ve waited a few days to post this as I am still savouring the flavours of: (starters) – Black Pudding Scotch Eggs – the pudding coating is extremely light in texture with golden yolky eggs - a combination that melts you without feeling too full for the main course. My guest had the Southern Fried Chicken Goujouns – similarly light and with delicately flavoured dusting of batter. (Mains) – Stuffed Chicken grilled perfection with a sauce to die for. My guest had the Stuffed Peppers – wholesome with a generous helping of sides. All washed down with a value for money bottle of Malbec left no room for deserts!

Came across the pub following a lovely walk along the canal and through the village. Tempted inside by 'Walkers and their dogs welcome'. We received a warm welcome, the service was friendly and the place inviting. The food was tasty and the toffee and chocolate brownie with ice cream was delicious. Nothing was to much trouble. Roaring fire gives the place a homely feel. Will definitely recommend to our friends and family.

Food was excellent as always, please pass on our compliments to the chef, and the Jonny Oates Band was fantastic too. A great atmosphere to help celebrate a family birthday which was enjoyed by all. First visit here but wasn't disappointed. Food was excellent, we were served promptly and staff very friendly & welcoming. Menu not extensive (not a bad thing though) but there's something for everyone and a few specials to choose from too. Very reasonably priced. Would recommend a visit and we'll definitely be back!
