Best korean food in Christchurch! I know the professional service is essential, but the quality of food is undoubtedly the best. I am very sensitive to MSG, couldn't taste it here~~which makes my tummy peaceful. The rice they serve is from high quality of rice🍚 I am sure. Glad to find this Korean restaurant, TJ which tries to keep the traditional ways of seasoning. 👍
Went to TJ's for lunch, food portion was massive and tasted delicious. Ordered the spicy rice cake big dish. We were given many side dishes as well which was great and service was also quick and friendly. Will definitely be coming back!
I spent over 5 years in Christchurch before I moved to AKL in 2015. I started noticing this restaurant in 2012 and then became a regular. I literally tried everything on their menu, and everything was really good. The lady who owns the restaurant always made me feel at home each time I went there.
Food-wise: The flavor was always good and the size was always decent, and one of the high lights of this restaurant was the side dishes. They were always fresh, home-made with quite a wide range of variety (for some of them you cannot find in other Korean restaurants in Christchurch), and of course tasty.
Apart from the wonderful food, the ambiance of this place was superb. Although it was not a flash fancy restaurant, it was always homie and welcoming. The lovely lady taught me to cook some of the dishes and the night I left Christchurch she made a huge seafood pancake for me. Whenever I went to the TJ's, it reminded me of my parents at home but without nagging me :)
Although there are a few very good Korean restaurants in Auckland now, I can barely find any of them have a cozy homie ambiance like TJ's does. Still miss TJ's.
Three-year regular customer, NEVER had a bad experience.
All the best.
I haven't been there for a ages because of bad experience long long time ago but recently happened to visited again. I was quite impressed the side dishes were delicious especially the kimchi was freshly made by owner every morning. Even bowl of rice was generously big enough all the dishes are well homemade food. We really enjoyed our meal there. Lastly owner was kindly served us like mom. :) Definitely different now. Really appreciate that.
Authentic Korean food, specially the pork bones stew. It is super delicious. The meat is tender. We will definitely come back.
The boss is nice, I love #20 spicy pork ribs. Sweet and Spicy. Will come back again!
We have finished half of it, really yummy 😋
This is a cozy Korean restaurant, probably run by a family. The staff are always warm and friendly.
While the menu may be simple with limited options, most dishes are excellent.
They provide free korean barley tea, which feels wonderfully comforting as you step in on a cold winter day.
One of the best Korean Restaurants in Chch.
Pork born stew and Bul Gol Gi (stir fried beef) are the go to dishes.
Side dishes were ok-ish (compared to our previous visits).
It has been renovated in the last 12-18 months or so.
Extremely friendly family eatery! Super value for money and the portion (bulgogi rice set) is huge! Will visit again whenever I’m in the area. Thank you for sending me home with a contented tummy :)
Food is amazing, spicy chicken and tofu noodle soup with rice wine. Asked for extra spicy, championed to finish it, thankfully rice wine was a delicious neutraliser.
Highly recommended, the 6 free side dishes are the same traditional Korean ones, Kim che, lotus etc. Delicious, will come again.
Finally the seafood pancake is one of the best of its types, comparing with other Korean restaurants we have tried.
Quick, courteous service during a weekday lunch time. Delicious homestyle food and side dishes.
Go for the food, dont expect anything from the ambiance . It is clean and the chairs are comfy.
I love TJ’s ❤️ the food is amazing and the side dishes are fresh, plentiful and tasty.
But most of all the owner proprietor is a lovely lady who is alway friendly and welcoming.
Love how authentic everything is! Nice side dishes and my spicy pork was awesome, not too sweet and enough heat!
